even though I don't like him, Lee Westwood is the favorite and deservedly so.

I also like Hunter Mahan this week.

In most majors, the cream normally rises to the top. There will always be a few surprises, but overall, the best players in the world are going to be near the top of the leaderboard.

Not at British and US Opens. Setups of the two dictate too much.

A whole lot of who contends will be determined by just how difficult the PGA decides to make the setup at Congressional, if it's typical of most recent US Opens (which I suspect will be the case) then it's anybodys ballgame and the guy that drives it in the fairway consistantly and is steady over the 4, 5 and 6 footers all week will take the trophy.

I'd love to see Stricker win a Major.

PGA don't be setting up US Opens.

I think scott ends up near the top.

I think we'll see a fairly straightforward setup.Nothing radical anyway.

Looking forward to a wide open race. Added bonus... no constant Tiger talk on air.

I disagree. The best players in the world are just that because they have been successful on all different types of courses

I will be pulling for Dustin Johnson. Not sure how much of a shot he actually has tho. What kind of odds do you guys give him?

I meant as a whole to distance themselves. It's like all of them so close you could throw a blanket over them.

Who in the world, outside of the top few have actually distanced themselves? By the quirky crap that is the world golf rankings, Luke Donald is tops, but I wouldn't take him over any of our young horses entering a tournament.

Graeme McDowell essentially came out of nowhere last year, Lucas Glover won in '09, Angel snuck up and won it in '07, Does Michael Campbell even still play (for those that don't know, he won it all in '05)?

Todd Hamilton, Ben Curtis and I still can't spell the guys name from last year that won the British. Your statement sounds pretty golfballs03, but winners prove that the favorites and top dogs don't even win the US and British half the time. I'd have to agree with BMFPV that it's largely based on setups from the USGA and the R&A.

My thought, which was poorly worded, is I want an American to step out of the pack. That's for two reasons; golf needs someone to take Tiger's spot. And also because I can count the foreign golfers I like on one hand.

I wouldn't take Donald over any of them either.

interesting tidbit from espn...

He who sleeps with the 54-hole lead should beware. Thirteen consecutive 54-hole leaders at a major failed to break 70 in the final round. Only four went on to win.

Nine of the last 11 54-hole leaders failed to win the tournament, including Dustin Johnson at last year's U.S. Open and Rory McIlroy at the Masters in April.

In addition, three of the last four 54-hole leaders not only didn't win, they didn't break 80 in the final round.
