AJ McCarron.

I know it'll be viewed as a "lifetime acheivment" award to many, but they honestly cannot go with Winston if he's still got this scandal cloud hovering over him.

Johnny had a good run, but Chavis ended his campaign last weekend.

No one else "deserves" it and McCarron is the safest pick in order to avoid any controversy.

Just my 2 pennies.

I think Winston winds up winning it. I think most voters will ignore the scandal unless he is actually charged. I'm not sure that AJ even places second, though I'm sure he gets an invite to NYC.

I might tend to agree with you as I thought he was a dark horse anyway. He's not flashy or putting up numbers like Manziel, Mariota or Winston, but he is a solid performer.

But I wouldn't discount Bryce Petty if Baylor ends the season on a high note.

Petty was looking like a good dark horse for a while. Not sure he makes the invitation list anymore. I dont think Johnny gets an invite either to be honest.

Johnny will get an invite simply on the basis of having won it last year. Tebow got an invite in 2009 and he wasn't even close to having been a top 5 player that year. Manziel is easily top 5 this year, even with his issues against LSU.

As for Petty, I think Okie Lite destroyed his chances. It wasn't just that he looked bad, he looked awful. And his numbers will now be viewed as having been put up against mediocre competition. Fair or not, he's done.

Who does Baylor have left? The sips? They're running out of "competition".

Who knows, Mack beat Stoops when it looked like he was going to get trucked. You never know.

Okie State was #10 in the nation with the #11 rated defense. So it wasn't a pushover by any means. And Baylor has TCU and Texas left. TCU is having a rough year, but Texas is doing okay. Not great, but okay.

I'd say he has a far better shot than Manziel. A one loss Baylor team with some pretty strong numbers for Petty will still get looked at pretty strong as everyone has a bad game every once in a while. Even Manziel had a bad game or two last year.

IMO it without a doubt should and would go to Winston......if this investigation had never been brought to light. Now I don't know.

If you remove Winston as a candidate then I think it goes to McCarron

Does it matter. Heisman is a joke anymore these days. It rarely goes to the best player in college football, and is almost always a QB, occasionaly a RB. And they start promoting them on TV in game 1. Trophy has been meaningless for many years now.

On a tangent, but related subject, who is this RB from Boston College? Just saw that today on the ESPN Heisman watch

If Winston doesn't get it it'll be an embarrassment. Best player deserves the nation's top award, off-the-field stuff or no off-the-field stuff. There's enough lifetime achievement awards to go around at team banquets.

If he is convicted of a felony then he won't even be with the team anymore and perhaps not even eligible for the award (although I am not sure about that).

I don't think he'd be ineligible, but if he's charged with rape, there is no way he's getting the Heisman. Or any other individual award for that matter.

I know it's unpopular to say, but I think Mariota is probably the best football player in the country. So, I think he should win.

There's no doubt that he's a great player. But he's not winning this year. The Stanford and Arizona games doomed him.

Had Saban wanted to put AJM in a spot to win the trophy he could have.

Winston has had the more impressive year. His off the field stuff will determine who wins the trophy.

Bama doesn't need AJM to be that level to win, but he could be if they decided to win that way.

FSU needs Winston to play at a higher level than AJM is required to to win.

There's literally no chance Winston is convicted of anything before the end of the season. They'll drag this out as long as possible

So you don't have to be on a college football team to be eligible for the Heisman?

While character seems to mean very little these days someone with a rape charge looming should not be part of the consideration.
Additionally I don't believe a freshman should win the award, you see what we got with Johnny... a jerk

Andre Williams with 2000+ rushing yards (149 against FSU) would be high on my list

I don't think a charge would result in getting kicked off the team. I think it simply means he can't play. He still gets to stay in school on an athletic scholarship until the process works itself out.
