The 2020 Tennessee Lady Vols

We'll be starting out with a decent team if we finally play Saturday. They return three starters from a 14 and 4 conference team but the bench will be mostly freshmen as they have seven new players on the team. What I will be looking for is improved shooting as well as better defensive and physical play from the Lady Vols. Players that look to be able to bring a physical game for the Lady Vols are Green, Horston, and KK. Hopefully Davis can play a little more physical as well. Sort of surprised at Key's lack of upper body development looks about the same size as last season. Maybe she is a lot stronger than she looks don't see where she has put on much bulk in the upper body which I think is something she needed to advance her game. So I will be interested to see what she brings this year is it more than last year? I thought she was impressive as a freshman put up some good numbers was hoping to see a bigger stronger version this season with a lot better endurance. So I will be watching her.
I get the impression from the coaches that Burrell has advanced to another level of ability on the court. If she has become an efficient and productive player we'll be better than predicted in the SEC. Just hoping the freshmen and other bench players can come in and be productive and efficient enough to help the team more than the bench we had last season. One of the huge weaknesses of the team were the players coming off the bench last season. Hopefully we can play Saturday and hopefully we will see a much improved team over last season. Massey calling us a 12 point favorite I'm hoping were better than that and praying that were not worse.

just read this preview of the WKU game and it seems like WKU is missing a TON of its power from last season one of their best players who averaged over 17ppg is still in Egypt looking to return to the US and another main starter opted out of the season.
HOOPS CENTRAL: Lady Vols vs. Western Kentucky - University of Tennessee Athletics

Then were meeting a weakened team from what they expected to be. Hopefully were able to show on the court that were much improved over last season.

We have Walker and Salary also doing time at the point expect Walker gets a lot of minutes there if Horston is still having turnover problems. Walker looks really good at the one in high school film didn't play there much at Western Mich as they wanted her off the ball to score. I think she will definitely get some time at the one.
Looks like she will be getting most of the time at the one this season.

Would agree, she is such a steady presence on the floor. She kept the defense honest to perfection in that first game. Her shot when players go under the screen is money. That’s going to open things up in the paint for us big time when teams decide they’re gonna have to fight over the screens. Horston is the more talented passer of the two, but Walker’s IQ and timing are off the charts.

Not to mention Salary looked good in her debut, solid on ball defender, good ball control and a really nice shot. Love that she nailed that 3 “under pressure” she’s got some baller in her like Rennia.

Hoping Horston is on the road to an evolution In her game. To be honest I don’t see her ever playing the PG full time. She has the ability to be the dominant scorer after Rennia leaves. Could still bring it up in transition a lot after the rebound. Needs to work on her rebounding and start competing at the 2-3. I don’t think she has done anything wrong I just don’t see her beating out JW or Salary for the main PG role on a Kellie team. She’s very much a Holly PG, incredibly athletic, tons of potential, average basketball IQ. Holly always felt she could teach the basketball part. Hopefully KJH is more successful on that front. Already love the high IQ players she’s brought in, we look like a much more modern, competitive team.

This was the best thing I saw during the game. We looked like a TEAM rather than a gang of athletes trying to learn the sport of basketball. A sight for sore eyes, imo. :)

first look at Creme's bracketology

Tennessee;s in two of them

TBH I would rather just have an SEC tournament and forget about the NCAA tournament this season unless they can do 64 teams. Gonna be a massive asterisk next to the winner this season anyway due to all the chaos. If they do fewer than 64 teams it should just be an invitational tournament and not the NCAA tournament as many teams will not be able to qualify due to no fault of their own.

Has any seed below 48 ever won? Below 24?

No, but it certainly doesn’t mean they don’t deserve an opportunity. Many of those teams do change the projection of the tournament by winning a game or two they shouldn’t. Nobody expected Kellie’s 11 seed MO State team to be in the Sweet 16 in 2019. The field is 64 due to all of the automatic bids from conference championships. If they shrink the field that’s obviously what they have to do away with.

So then it’s basically just the committee inviting teams rather than teams qualifying. RPI and SOS are going to be super inaccurate due to all the weird scheduling issues so it’s going to be far more subjective than years past IMO. Unless you can have the full tournament in it’s original format it isn’t the NCAA tournament. It’s the WNIT with better teams and better advertising.

I get the opportunity piece. I’m just making the point that while a larger field means more games and chance for an upset, the winner is going to come from the top 48. Not sure the value of the tournament financially. In the Men’s game where that is really significant, they are going to do a tournament in some fashion even if a reduced size.

West Virginia averaging 72 points per game and 52 coming from the perimeter players. They have one player shooting 57 percent from the three we need to work her over. Looks like their inside players can't score very well none have a very good percentage. This game will come down to how well we guard the perimeter players they have all are really excellent and one is outstanding.
