The 2nd career adventures of Yankee

I mean, compared to a small block chevy from 20 years ago or a B16 Honda...yeah, they can cost a little more.

But anymore almost nothing is cheap to work on.

Both I suppose. Prices seemed much better than when I was originally shopping them several months ago.

Still no prerunners though so I was out.
Thanks for pointing out Jim's posts on FB. I exchanged a few messages with him but ultimately a local dealership gave me $9500 off MSRP on a 2025 Tundra SR5 with the TRD Rally package. Not fond of the heritage decals but it had all the features I wanted at the right price. Just mentioning Jim and the price he could get me was enough for them to come way off. I know I'm risking that the parts updates they did in the engine mid-2024 didn't fix the issues, but it has a warranty and there haven't been any reported failures with replaced engines so far...so hopefully they've got a handle on it. I'm keeping my Titan and will give it to my son when he turns 16 and then make the Tundra my primary truck.

Good deal. Whatever got you the deal is the main thing! Sounds like you did well.

Yeah, I had to jump on it. We traded-in my wife's '22 Pathfinder Platinum and they matched the best price we got from two other dealers and CarMax. They did require us to use their financing to get that deal, but with the tax savings on trading, the Pathfinder being paid off, and putting more cash down on top...I got a small loan that I'll knock out quick to satisfy that part of the deal. Before the standard warranty is up, I'll get a Toyota 10 year 125k mile platinum warranty from a guy that sells them for a lot less online and not worry about the engine stuff. Hopefully it's fixed and I never have a problem, but by the time I get in that 30k miles area where most folks had their engine go, Toyota ought to have it fully figured out.

Make well over 6 figures for 3+ years and get back to me lol

Today marked 1 year at Georgia State. It's the longest I've had a job since officially retiring from the Army.

Did you go the TRS or ORP route when you were onboarded? If the former...9 more years to go to get vested in that sweet, sweet defined benefit through TRS.

It seemed like an eternity sometimes, but I just hit my 10-year mark at another state institution.

ORP as I don't plan on staying 10 years.

Smart move if you know your timeline and don't want to park it for the full 10...I've seen quite a few coworkers screw themselves over by sticking it out for 7-8 years and then deciding they can't take it anymore (or they find a better situation elsewhere) and in doing so, lose out on the TRS/employer match. It's a bit of a golden brass handcuff scenario.

It's great if you plan on staying. With the ORP I'm vested immediately which I why I chose it.
