The 2nd career adventures of Yankee

Anybody still in new car sales on here?

Attempting to find a ford dealer I can work with.

0 for 4 so far around Knoxville. 3 confirmed a vehicle was in stock, only to show up and it magically was just sold. The 4th pulled around the exact opposite of what I called about and immediately started the up-sell. All 4 are dead to me.

I don't have the kind of time to waste on that stuff. I'd like to find somewhere that is at least slightly above board.
Might try Lenoir City Ford. I always had good dealings with them when I lived there. It has been 9 yrs, so who knows now.

Mountain View Ford in Chattanooga. That's where I bought my last Mustang. They honored A-plan pricing when no one else would.

Funny you mention them, I'm trying to set up a test drive with them because they're the only ones with a configuration close to what I want. So they'll have a shot.

Thanks for the heads up, that tells me a lot if they'd do the A-plan deal. I don't have any of the A/D/X/Z plans, but makes me think they're at least a little less of the BS than the Knoxville area guys have been.

I'm looking for a pretty base model 2D Bronco, particularly some of the 24 Big Bends that are still sitting around. I realize at the lower price they're chum to attract people in, but its downright strange how the search has been so far.

Honestly your best bet might be to use Autotrader and look around other areas. There are A LOT of 2 door Big Bends and Black Diamonds on there for 6-7k off sticker. I've been looking for a 4dr in Central FL and there are some deals to be had.

That's honestly what's got me where I am.

What I'm running into is the base 2Dr Big Bends are either already sold but still listed, or listed at $37k on autotrader/cargurus but once speaking to them that is with every available rebate- essentially impossible to buy at that price. Extremely annoying.

Now, that said, I'm learning Knoxville is one of the worst/most toxic markets in the country so its out. My plan today is to reach out to as many dealers as possible with one listed on Trader/Gurus and see if I can find anyone actually willing to work at that price. Even 500/600 miles out, doesn't really matter to me. If we can get on the same page price-wise, I'll make a deposit and be there as soon as practical.

I drove close to the configuration of what I want on Friday and confirmed its what I want, so now I'm just chasing price. Lenior City was cool, but theirs had about $7k in options I don't want.

I've been shopping new Toyota Tacomas since my wife wants a midsized truck and have been surprised at how much they're coming off MSRP before negotiating. They usually don't come off much on Toyota trucks, so it seems to be a decent buyer's market right now. I would think you could find some Ford dealers eager to work with you, but I'm in the Atlanta market and it could be different down here. I hope you find what you want and get a great deal.

Crazy you mention Tacomas. I've been a devout Toyota person for 30 years. Still have an older Tacoma and a 4th Gen 4Runner.

I'm glad to see they're coming off MSRP pretty easily. Their pricing scheme on the new Tacomas and 4Runners (and 1958 trim Land Cruisers) was beyond insane. The distributor and dealer installed options turned me off so much I started looking outside the brand.

Yeah, you definitely still pay more for the options you get. We're getting prices of $5k off MSRP before really negotiating, so they might come down more. Some of the big Toyota dealers try to stick you with a lot of add-ons and fees, but we've found a local dealer that doesn't do that. My wife drove all the midsize trucks that are out now and liked the Tacoma and Colorado best, but the Colorados seem to have a lot of electrical gremlins. The Frontier would be at the top if not for the steering being too heavy to her...I like it, but I've always had trucks. I've got a friend that lives in Colorado that recently got a Bronco to explore all the great off road trails out there and he loves it.

Looks like you're shopping right where you need to be. I loved the Frontiers too. Its about the one thing left Nissan does ok with, and they're so overstocked there are some killer deals available. The simplicity of their driveline is something really of value to a lot of people, myself included.

I weep for the long gone older, still independent Toyota dealerships. My last new 4Runner purchase took a grand total of about 60min of work over a couple weeks with a dealership in NC. Went to drive one. Called back, told them the specs I wanted. They called me back when they found a dealer trade available, I placed a deposit over the phone. Went a couple weeks later to pick it up when it was delivered. 25min to sign papers. Price was better than anyone in Knoxville could get within 2k of.

I may regret going Bronco, but I'll have my knockaround Tacoma to fall back to if I don't.

The Nissan trucks and some of the SUVs have been great. The Z cars are super reliable and fun. I've got a 2021 Titan Pro-4x that I love and my wife has a 2022 Pathfinder that's been safe and reliable. My experience has been that Nissans without a CVT are solid. Maybe they're a bit behind in tech features, but they're reliable. I hope they pair down their car offerings and get their stuff together because I've really enjoyed the Nissans I've owned. I lean pretty heavily towards Nissan, Toyota, and Honda because of reliability...but I don't blame you for wanting a Bronco. They look good and are probably fun. I've also been hearing better things about Ford than GM lately when it comes to reliability, so the Bronco will probably end up being fairly reliable.

I'd put Nissan 3rd of the 3. I had a Titan for all of about 4 months. Great engine, chit build quality.

TBH, I look at Nissan like I look at Chrysler. There's a market for it though.

Forgot to tell you, I've followed some No Markup/MSRP Toyota Sales groups on FB for a while now. They're remnants from when the market went insane during and after covid. Started as a way to crowd source dealers that were being at least somewhat reasonable, but they're still a decent place to catch some deals now and again while you look.

There's a broker type guy that posted sheets yesterday that were really heavy on Tacoma and Tundra inventory.

I won't disagree with the Chrysler comparison when looking at their cheap small cars and small crossovers, but I don't agree on the trucks and some of the SUVs. To each their own.

Same. Even though the Frontier drivelines are fairly well thought of, their CVT issues and build quality in so much of what they sell got them into the situation they're in. I know the Honda merger was more electric focused so I'm not really sure what it could do for them in the short term.

So was it just showing that inventory is really high or was their other valuable info?

Both I suppose. Prices seemed much better than when I was originally shopping them several months ago.

Still no prerunners though so I was out.
Yeah, I've started checking to see what's realistic on a Tundra in case it's a better value than the Tacoma. I'm seeing plenty of Tacomas, although the stop sale on the TRD Off Roads has limited available inventory, but I'm seeing a TON of Tundras available right now. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on a Tacoma despite $5k off MSRP because it still doesn't feel like I'm getting enough truck for the money. I'm thinking they should be able to do $8k or better off MSRP on the Tundra. Best I've found so far is $7500 off.

I would 100% avoid a Tundra until they fix that POS V6 they decided to put in.

That's likely where I'd end up if I was still shopping trucks.

They are stacked with Tundras and they're getting beat up right now with the motor issues. People were mad they went TTV6 to start with, then they showed up with issues. Its a rare place for Toyota to be.

You can absolutely lean on them to get a better value than the Tacoma, IMO. Granted, my way of looking at features is way off from most people, but I'd want the increased capability and MUCH more space if I'm spending close to equal money. Garage/Driveway space is a consideration at that point though.

You just have to decide how you look at what Yankee mentioned. The engine issue is absolutely a thing. Some people's confidence is extremely shaken by it, some people believe its the best time to buy one because Toyota has probably never been more picky. Up to you to decide where you fall on that. (Just ignore the fanboys who claim its not a real thing. I'm as big a Toyota honk as you'll find. Its an issue.)
