The 60s: Best Decade for Music?

But within two years the anti-progressive/anti-fusion movement (PUNK) emerged and totally brought RnR back into it.

I love some Genesis, Yes, etc. but PUNK was a direct reaction to 7+ minute songs with elaborate structures and endless solos.

That morphed into New Wave and of course Rap emerged in the mid/late seventies.

You can't leave out the massive music change that occurred in the second half of the 70s.

Of course not

YOu have to remember, Genesis went to a pop sound behind Phil Collins. It made me vomit, but they sold records and reached out to new audience. Yes did sort of the same thing with 90215, and Owner (which also made my vomit), but they kind of stayed into the progressive sound, only limiting the song length. Trevor Rabin had a big impact on their crossover

Never became a huge fan of the Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc. Did love the early Talking Heads, early Police, Clash, early B52s, etc.....

Can't remember when I started listening but the song that got me into it was Yellow Submarine by the Beatles.

I attended a Ringo Starr concert last year in Atlanta. When he preformed Yellow Submarine, the crowd went wild.

Wow! One of the worst Beatles songs ever got you into loving old music?

The seventies get my vote. Just a lot of different music going on throughout the decade. Especially loved the R&B funk stuff.

Yes. I grew up listening to Oldies, it was all my mom ever played in the car throughout my childhood. Songs like Brown Eyed Girl, American Pie, and Daydream Believer bring back great childhood memories.

the kinks string of hits in the 60s was unreal. had they not been banned from touring the US, they may have become the biggest band in the world

20th Century Man is one of my favs.

I had that live Kinks album that came out in the late 70s/early 80s and loved it. Missed a chance to see them around that time and have regretted it since.

EDIT: Album is One for the Road. Also love David Watts

OFTR is a solid live album.
Paul Weller/The Jam do a good cover of David Watts
Pretenders do an awesome cover Stop Sobbing

Did you hear Bobcat Golthwait is doing a movie version of classic Kinks record Schoolboys in Disgrace?

sucks you kissed them live in that era. from watching videos of that era, they look awesome, coke fueled performances.

My favorite music is from the early 90's Soundegarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. Haven't heard anything I like better. Led Zeppelin from the 70's was fantastic, as well as AC/DC (80's).

This decade is pretty poor IMO.

most contrived pop acts should not be taken into account. if you dismiss all the mainstream acts out of modern music there are some great artists that could stand up to many of the musicians from previous decades.

if you like the Beatles, you be amazed at how the Beatles, and every other band, basically ripped off the the Rutles. Greatest band of all time. no contest.

1980s and it isn't close for me. New wave, heavy metal, and punk rock.
