I've been talking to my Bama friends (yes, I have many) and been poking around on their Reddit message boards. Some take aways.
My take after Saturdays games: Georgia (as Doug Mathews said) won the Tennessee game 3 years ago by recruiting . Georgia has talent. LSU beating Bama popped a bubble for the Tide fan base - to many, as faulty as they have been playing, a natty was still achievable, regardless of how bad they played in some of their victories. Saban will remain the greatest coach of my lifetime, regardless of what happens (take one of those rings off Nick and give it to Bryce so he's happy!), however I honestly believe if next season, he doesn't win the west, it'll be time for him to go to seed. (And nobody want's to be the coach that follows him).
Call it an entitled fan base. From the Tennessee perspective, how could you be bitching with the success rate they've had? Holy crap, what a run. On the other hand, the success Saban has had justifies it to a large degree. It's not being cocky if you can back it up. Right now, Bama can't be cocky. Georgia can.
- The lightening rod for this season has become Bill O'Brian (BoB) OC. Pete Golding DC running a close second. Many wanting them fired.
- Saban is too loyal to his assistants to fire them and that's part of the problem.
- Bama is 4 points from undefeated and the sky is falling there.
- Saban hit 71 recently. He is now making bad coaching decisions (not running more clock at Tenn, and using Butch Jones chart on going for 2 at LSU (that's a joke, but why did he go for 2? Math didn't add up).
- Refs still biased against them. Brian Kelly's 2 point conversion was an illegal play (and Kelly admits it). Now he's genius, because if flagged, take the penalty, kick for second OT.
- Fan Base is apologetic to Bryce for him not getting a ring after all he's done for them. Looks like he will leave literally "empty handed".
- Good news many say Saban still get's the best recruits, it's a coaching problem (see first bullet item).
- They are tired of Bryce having to be the one to put the game on his shoulders every week and bale (or is it bail) out the mediocre team.
- Others say Kirby is the new Saban and he won't be able to beat GA again. (popcorn here).
- At least one commented on Heupel catching the eye of new offensive recruits based on this season so far. Kirby still far out if front of both.
- Lots of complaining about underperforming Will Anderson and the WR's (can't remember these players names)
- Some say they are not glad they won't have to play Georgia, because they don't want a bloodbath in the SEC game.
- Some think the team has now lost the will to play since they won't be playing for a ring and think Lane Kiffen will steam roll them in Oxford next week.
