The All Things Cycling Thread

Hey folks.

Bell helmets is giving a 100,00 dollar grant to upgrade and build new Mountain Biking trails. They have a webpage set up to vote for which city you want the money to go to. The east coast vote is between New York, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia. But don't get too excited. Tennessee is behind by 9000 votes. Not going to happen. But maybe we can help steal one from the yanks. Sorry Yankee Vol :)

Well until today Virginia has been in the lead by ~500 votes. Then someone went to the DogeCoin subreddit and asked them to start voting for New York, which has put New York in the lead.

Edit: The link might help http://www.bellhelmets.com/bellbuilt/

This is from the Virginia project page: Richmond Regional Ride Center will change the lives of people with physical challenges in our area with the inclusion of the hand cycle trail and training center! We have been working hard to give our disabled veterans the outdoor riding experience and be on the trails with other cyclists! What a great addition to our area!

Compared to a 2 mile trail for New York

Did Chicago win the Midwest region voting or Minneapolis? When I voted they were about 100 votes apart and my local MTB club forum was spammed by both cities.

Went with the Scott CR1 20 Compact, Shimano pedals and shoes and a Giro helmet. After all is said and done it was a grand total of just under $1,750.

Gotta love the REI anniversary sale. The bike was 15% off. The Shimano and Giro accessories were 25% off.

Nice ride.

17 miles through the trails here and my first real crash. came barreling down a decline into a tight curve then straight up hill. Back tire caught nothing but pine straw and slid completely out from under me. Fortunately, I went left and the bike went right. Knee is a bit banged up, but nothing too bad.

Yes I'm really in Alaska. Plenty of roads to ride actually. Probably more mountain biking though.

Are they in good condition? No danger of being run over by a pickup truck?

I don't hear of many people cycling in Alaska, other than the crazy ones riding hundreds of miles on gravel roads.

45 miles today. I did the West Bicycle's Cardiac 38 mile course, but I rode from my house. 18.0 pace solo.

Sounds like you're a bit faster than I am these days.

So three weeks ago I got sick. I only felt sick (sore throat, aches) for a day or two. But since then I've had a cough that WILL NOT GO AWAY. It's really annoying. And coughing while riding is even more annoying than coughing while sitting around.

For the most part I now only have to cough at stops--not when I'm moving. Still annoying, though. At times my upper chest/throat and/or abdomen muscles have hurt from coughing too much. It's worse than being a smoker.
