The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2, 2014)

VOLffle you're just average! JLaw is smokin IMO.

Anyways Shailene is out for good? I knew she basically was the last one to know that MJ wasn't going to be in part 2, but I thought that just meant her part got delayed.

When they announced the part was cut, they said they may re-cast. I think it was moreso because she didn't know if she could commit or not rather than they didn't like her for the part, but there's a decent chance she doesn't end up playing MJ.

She's got the Divergent films lined up, although I really don't know how that film did and if it did well enough that they will make the complete series, but I'm guessing they will.

If my teenage niece is any indication they will continue the Divergent series. That is the target audience and it was successful with them.

I watched the first Twilight movie and it was so bad on so many levels that I was shocked it got a sequels. But teenage girls loved it so it got to play out the rest of the series.

She's attractive, sure, but not a head turner.

She is def a step down from Rebecca Romijn ad Mystique.

I've still yet to hear anyone I know personally who has seen it give it a good review. It's been unanimous to wait til DVD, and this is getting up to 20+ people now.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 8/10

I'm not sure why so many are giving this a less than stellar review. I just got back from seeing it and thought it was awesome. The story was good, the special effects were spot on. The acting overall was excellent. IMO

I only have a few complaints one being we should have got a 2 or 3 minute flashback of Peter & Harry meeting as kids. I thought the Rhino breakout/debut should have come at the beginning of the third film. However the part with the little kid & spidey made up for it.

Can't wait for TASM 3! Bring on M.J.!

(By the way my pick to play Mary Jane is... Karen Gillian!!)

still can't believe they killed gwen off. I wonder if the Felicia chick will be black cat

Lol you know Felicia in the comic book is black cat right? I haven't seen the movie but the people freaking out about Gwen dying is funny cause it's happened in every spider man universe ever made

Poor Gwen. Her character has a destiny that cant be changed apparently.

I once read a interview with Stan Lee who said he was very upset at the decision to kill Gwen after he had quit writing the book. He really thought she was Peter Parker's Lois Lane type.

Andrew Garfield Contracted for 2 More SPIDER-MAN Films

The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has reportedly signed a new contract with Sony Pictures that will bring him back as Peter Parker for at least two more Spider-Man films. The news comes from The Daily Star, and this is what a senior source from Columbia Pictures told them:

"Andrew is already contracted to make two more films for release in 2015 and 2016."

What's interesting about that statement is The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set to be released on June 10th, 2016, and part 4 will be released on May 4th, 2018. So what is this 2015 movie they speak of? Could it be for the Sinister Six or Venom spinoff films being developed? I don't see how Spider-Man wouldn't be a part of those, but I guess we'll see.

The source goes on to say that they "are looking to tie him to the role for as many as a further four pictures given the huge success the franchise is enjoying." They then add, "The part is pretty much his for as long as he chooses."

Apparently, to help sweeten the deal and keep Garfield on board, the studio is even offering him a box office profit-sharing deal to play Spidey for another six years.

I'm a big fan of what Garfield has done in bringing Peter Parker to life on the big screen. He's been awesome and has fully realized the character in my eyes. I'd love to see him keep playing Spider-Man, and it looks like the studio is doing everything they can to keep him around.

Most of us aren't 15 year old girls. :whistling:

So I broke down and took my nephews today. I loved it. I'm an old school comic guy. I read this story as a kid. Personally, even knowing what was going to happen, I loved how they captured the emotions of it all. The acting by by Emma Stone and James Garfield was excellent IMO. For those saying Garfield isn't nerdy enough, by this time in his career as Spider-Man, Peter Parker had grown into his confidence and was known for his wisecracks he was constantly making in the fights. I thought they did great with that. Were elements of the story rushed? Yes, but you had to because a) Harry wasn't in the first movie(done intentionally IMO since we saw it done in the Tobey Maguire SMs), and b) because it's a movie. It wasn't enough of a pace crunch to turn me off.

My only complaint about this movie was the Rhino. First, the Rhino isn't Iron Man. Second, I normally like Paul Giamatti, but he totally didn't fit this part IMO.

Honestly, I thought this was the best Spider-Man movie to date. All the emotion the original story conveyed as a youngster came to life for me on the movie screen. That was magic.

I was 17 the first time I read "the night Gwen Stacey died" and I teared up despite already knowing her not only that she died but how.

Second favorite comic story of all time. The first was the X-Men's Dark Phoenix saga. Both made me tear up as a kid. Honestly, I was on the edge of the seat hoping somehow he could save Gwen this time, even though I knew it wouldn't happen.

The X-men movies dropped the ball on the Dark Phoenix story, but I felt this movie captured the magic of the original story.

Agreed on X-Men movies. I'm pretty forgiving about the interpretation of the source when it comes to X-Men since there are so many characters and their history is pretty convoluted anyway. The end of X2 had me hoping for something special but they chickened out in the intergalactic aspect of the story. Then tried to cram in the "cure" story line. X3 was just a damn mess.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I was interested to see how they handled the "how" part.

I've still read/heard mostly horrible reviews (except for here) and I just don't haven't been able to bring myself to see them screw up this particular storyline.

It has been years since I read it but from what I can remember they did a good job lifting it straight out of the comic. IMO

I think its worth checking out and judging for your self like I said I really haven't heard a good excuse for why some didn't like it.

Disagree that he's a good Parker. Too cool, suave, whatever....I see PP as somewhat awkward and nerdy.

Here was my issue...which was an issue in the first movie as well. Also...

Sally Field rose above the rest of the actors in her limited role, IMO.

In the comics, Peter was nerdy and awkward. That started to change when he became Spider-Man. He went from being the "wimpy" kid that couldn't defend himself to being the kid that had to hide what he could do. Over time, he changed. He became more confident. He was still "nerdy" in that he was a science geek, but he wasn't a guy that could be easily pushed around anymore. And then he met Gwen, and that's when the character really changed.

So yeah, you're not wrong in that Peter was nerdy and awkward, but he was more, and the movies, doing as movies do, took some liberties and skipped ahead a bit to tell that story. As it relates to Gwen and the character Peter became with Gwen, I think the movies do a good job depicting that. I think they did a great job with this second one of capturing the spirit of the original story. Are there differences? Of course, that always happens when adopting a written story to a movie, but it captures the essence perfectly IMO.

What's gonna suck is the void Gwen leaves behind in the next movie. It's not that the movie itself will be terrible(though it could be), but Gwen was such a pivotal character in Spider-Man. Any long time comic reader knows how important Gwen was in the Spider-Man mythos. You know MJ is up next, and there's a great connection there too, but Gwen was the first. And Emma Stone did a great job with her. They'll need to cast MJ carefully to make it work.

It also didn't hurt that chemistry on screen between Emma & Andrew was more than just acting! Since they began dating during filming of the first film.
