The Americans

I agree, way too much time wasted for a series finale. To many storylines left open.

The more I think about it the worse it was, it's like FX decided to just end it as cheaply as they could.

...and they spent too much time with symbolism. The Jennings' last meal in the U.S. was at McDonald's. The show lingered there for no apparent reason than just that - symbolism. Gee, could you scream "We're leaving American capitalism behind!... and we might miss some of it!" just a little louder?

And they wouldn’t for long. McDonald’s was in Moscow by 1990.

The cheap part might be right; they cut the episode order from the usual 13 to 10 for the final season.

I’m glad that they at least acknowledged Stan’s girlfriend. “I don’t know how to say this, but....”

well, I liked the finale. Of course they'll never shut the door on any series these days. They started in Russia and ended in Russia but is that what they really wanted to do. I liked the little teaser dream sequence. I was screaming "oh dont you f___g dare....." Didnt add anything, didnt take away anything. Just a little gotcha.

Just started with the wife. I've seen season 1 before but starting over.

i'm thinking about going back and watching it again. watching it week to week, there's a lot that goes on....being able to put together 2-3 episodes at time, i'm betting makes the story flow better, at least as far as all the little intricacies and nuances go that happen often in this show.

I bought Season 6 on Prime and am binge watching it right now. I like how it's skipped a few years, but I hate the b!tch they made Elizabeth into.

I recommend doing it. I watched it by myself then began watching with my wife. I thought I'd be bored seeing it again so soon but it was the best idea I had. I picked up on so many things I missed the first time. Then when I knew something big was coming up I could watch my wifes reaction. I cant wait to see/hear her watch the finale with the train station scene.

True, but they are going complete hardcore with her this season.

I'm up to episode 6.

They definitely did. They made her very unlikeable this season and that’s hard for me to admit because I dated a girl that looked almost exactly like her in high school.

yeah, i thought the same, but with how season 5 ended, and how she was 'training' paige, i kinda figured she'd end up this way. she's a believer, not a thinker. and it's evident in all her motives/actions up to this point.

i found it interesting that Phillip didn't really try to change her path. he'd offer an opinion, say what he wanted, but never belabored the issue. he knows there's a point that she simply won't be reached.

something would have to change for her to change. and him changing wasn't it.

You gotta remember, their whole relationship was an ASSIGNMENT. Their feelings grew out of that, but their mission is always first priority...both of them. Hard to turn on certain feelings when you turn em off to seduce other people for strategy.

Just finished it up and certainly not the ending I was expecting. Kinda disappointed as well. I do wonder:

What ended up happening to Oleg? He was kind of a douchy character you ended up growing to like over the long run. Plus, there was a whole lot of hinting he was eventually charged by the KGB for releasing the info to Stan.

No real closure with any of the main or recurring characters for the most part. Philip, Elizabeth, Claudia, Gabriel, Martha and Paige are the notable ones you kind of get left hanging with. Paige is now on the run, but is she? Who knows what's going to happen with the Philip and Elizabeth thing. Claudia? Did she defect? Did Martha finally adopt that little girl or what?

The only real closure was with the characters you know for a fact died like Nina and Frank Gaad. Speaking of, WTH was the deal the KGB wanted to talk to him about when he accidentally killed himself? Yeah, that never got explained.

A lot of questions unanswered that need closure.

With the way it ended, it almost begs for a straight to DVD type movie to tie up some of the loose ends.

You guys do yourselves a favor and read 'The Charm School' by Nelson Demille. I know I'm a broken record, but just do it . Hands down the best book I've ever read. Think of it as how Philip and Elizabeth learn to be AMERICANS.'

It's a great novel, with a story.

The great shows don’t explain everything. Real life has “loose ends”. The writers and producers respect their audience when they let us individually fill in the blanks imo.

Couple of loose ends is one thing. This series is filled with them.
