The Apologize to the Vols Thread

I NEVER SAW SO MANY APOLOGIES IN MY LIFE. I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY'S PASSION BUT I GUESS WHEN YOU GET OLD LIKE ME, YOU LOOK AT THINGS OBJECTIVELY. ALL DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THAT GAME, ALL I SAW WAS DUMB LUCK ON LSU'S SIDE. THEIR FIRST TD RUN WAS STACKED UP BUT THE GUY GOT KNOCKED SIDEWAYS AND FOUND HIMSELF IN THE OPEN. THEN CAME THAT COWPASTURE PASS ON THE FLEAFLICKER. AND FINALLY AINGE PANICKING AND GIVING THEM THE THIRD ONE. I'VE SEEN TOO MANY OF THESE GAMES WHERE THE ONE TEAM HAS IT TOO DAMNED EASY RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE AND THEN THINGS TURN AROUND. I ADMIT, I WAS UPSET WITH THE VOLS IN HALF ONE BUT NOT ABOUT ALL THE OOFFENSIVE MISTAKES. I WAS MORE UPSET ABOUT POOR TACKLING. DID ANYBODY NOTICE THAT? THE "D" RALLY STEPPED IT UP IN THE SECOND HALF, THOUGH.
I POSTED ON A COUPLE OF THREADS AT HALFTIME THAT LSU WASN'T THAT GOOD AND THE VOLS WOULD COME BACK AND TAKE IT. JUST GOES TO PROVE THAT THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE ON ONE DOG'S A$$ ALL DAY LONG.
FOR ALL WHO WERE READY TO SHOOT THE TEAM PLANE DOWN ON IT'S WAY BACK HOME...SHAME ON YOUR A$$ES. i PROBABLY WON'T BE WELCOME BACK HERE ANYMORE BUT IF NOT, THAT'S FINE TOO. i'M MORE po'D ABOUT WHAT I READ ON THIS BOARD THAN ABOUT THE POOR FIRST HALF SHOWING. JUST REMEMBER, THERE'S A FEW OF US AROUND WHO LOVE THE VOLS, WIN OR LOSE. ALWAYS HAVE, ALWAYS WILL.

Great post! I was saying the same thing on another board. We had folks over there bailing on us after it got to be 7-0. Shame on them!

I too must apologize... I lost faith during the first half.

I am glad that the Vols made me eat some crow!!!

Even when we were down 21-0, it was pretty clear that if we ever generated ANYTHING on offense, the defense was playing well enough to make it a game.

I guess it was only a matter of time....but I don't think I've ever seen us play a worse half of offensive football. Thank goodness they figured things out and started making plays.

Sorry, but if you didn't have just a little bit of doubt after watching that first half, then you were either drunk, not paying attention or don't know much about the game of football. You choose.

First, here's a piece of advice for you. Don't come into a battle of wits with ME because you're bringing a knife to a gun fight.

OF COURSE, there was a little doubt in my mind because 21 points is a helluva hole to crawl out of but I've seen it done too many times before.
At least I didn't see it as hopeless. Case in point: I remember all too well the SEC championship game with Auburn in Manning's last year. Essentially the same set of circumstances.

LSU hadn't showed me anything special that whole first half. Take away some amateurish quarterbacking by Ainge and the Vols LEAD at the half.
If you argue with that, you are the one who has a choice to make, Tangerine Blood. Take your pick.

That's all I was saying. Being down 21 to 0 when your offense just looks horrible and hasn't scored a second half TD this year is more than enough to put doubt in anyones head.

The fact that in your first post, you were more concerned about the Defense for the first half troubles says enough. They were just drained from having to be on the field that much in the heat much like LSU's D in the second half.

I will agree that LSU didn't do all that much in order to score, but they scored. You can take away all you want, but we were still down 21 at the half and that's a fact. You admitted that you had a little doubt and that's all I was saying for most of us.

Most all of us were frustrated at halftime, but that doesn't mean that you should come and type LIKE THIS and yell at everyone for being emotional about our Vols.

Bottom line, the team got it together and pulled off a huge win for us. I'm proud of them for playing their hearts out in the second half. I'll leave it at that since you are witty and I fear your response. :victory:

My response is: Sorry for the snotty comments. I was still a little hot over the negative posts at the half. I guess I take it a little too seriously
when somebody gets on our Vols. I probably should have just gone to bed and savored the win. Of course I don't have many fellow Tennessee fans to talk to over here. That's why I joined this board. This is ACC (Clemson, UNC) country. And if you think those Bammers
are obnoxious, they ain't a patch to them Clemson bull-jerkers. You wouldn't believe the ration of sh-- I took after that Peach Bowl.
I have found there are some very knowledgeable people on this board and they know a lot more more about football than I do, especially strategy.
For my part, I did lie about one thing, LSU had a pretty good pass rush and blitz plan in the first half. That , in my opinion, played havoc with Ainge because (I think) he holds the ball too long. When Clausen came in and started getting the ball off quicker to the short outs, it loosened it up considerably. That's what a senior can do for you. That's what I was basing my optomism on for the second half. I figured that the O would adjust and start picking up that corner blitzer in the second half and thank God they did.
What did you think about our punt and kickoff coverage? I missed the Florida game but I thought it hurt us all night long. Was it that bad against the Gators or was this just one of those days? Anyhow I sure hope it gets better. Hats off to the defense for a helluva game .

Summary: Again, my apologies to you and the rest of the boards, OWB. I'm just a foolish old man who gets carried away with my emotions. We've got a rough road ahead with Georgia, Bama, ND, etc. Hope we win em all.

I wasnt drunk, I was paying attention and I am a football coach (so I would think I know something about the game).

What I didnt lose was HOPE! That was the key. Some people didnt have it. Some did. I realized the situation we were in, yet I couldnt forget what happened @ South Bend in 1991.

I choose D- none of thee above.

 I'm really sorry that you live in Clemson country. I have a new found respect for you already. I think that we all got the picture about Clemson, their program and their fans.

I have found there are some very knowledgeable people on this board and they know a lot more more about football than I do, especially strategy.

Yes, I would agree that he holds the ball too long. Like he is always looking for the big play. Rick dumps it off to the backs a lot and it's very effective while keeping our offense moving.

When Clausen came in and started getting the ball off quicker to the short outs, it loosened it up considerably.  That's what a senior can do for you.  That's what I was basing my optomism on for the second half.  I figured that the O would adjust and start picking up that corner blitzer in the second half and thank God they did.

Clausen makes sound choices with the football, there's no denying that. He makes the right reads and the right checks most of the time. It's something Ainge will learn but he obviously hasn't done so yet.

What did you think about our punt and kickoff coverage? I missed the Florida game but I thought it hurt us all night long.  Was it that bad against the Gators or was this just one of those days?

Our special teams looked worse against UF. At least we didn't turn it over on ST's in the LSU game. There is a lot of room for improvement there. If our special teams could give our offense a shorter field, obviously our chances of scoring go up.

Summary:  Again, my apologies to you and the rest of the boards, OWB.  I'm just a foolish old man who gets carried away with my emotions.  We've got a rough road ahead with Georgia, Bama, ND, etc.  Hope we win em all.

No sense in being sorry. We were all pretty emotional during and after that game. That's the great thing about loving a team. Going through all the ups and downs is fun for the most part, especially when they pull off the win at the end. My father is a Hokie and I pull for them and wish them well, but I show no emotion one way or another. Tennessee is a whole different story.

We do have a tough schedule, but with this team, at least you know it will be exciting. I mean, how much fun could it really be to pull for Southern Cal with them winning all the time??? :haha_oh:

Well, the people I posted with last night, half of them lost hope. They gave up when the score was 7-0. They started claiming the game was over when it was 14-0. By the time HT rolled around, they had given up on the season.

Was I discouraged? Hell yes. I even told em I wouldnt give up because the Miracle @ SB. Of course, I was laughed at.

Only one of them had the guts to step up and say "Boy, I sure lost it last night".
