The Arguments for Dooley

You obviously don't know what competitive means??? we were in position to win, we had our chances. That is what competitive means?

Just bc our d sucks doesn't mean we couldn't win. Look at the patriots their defense has been terrible for 5 years and they are "competitive"

No, when you can't keep a team from scoring more points than you, you aren't "competitive." For a while, in the 90's Vandy played really well on one side of the ball. They had a good defense, but they couldn't score to save their life. They held us to some low scores at times, but they still lost. No one ever said that Vandy was "competitive".

Also, the Patriots win games! They play at least enough defense to WIN!!!

I view competitive as you win some of the big games. You lose some of the big games. Under Dooley we lose ALL the big games. And now the games left on our schedule aren't good teams so if he wins them which Mizzou and Vandy I find myself on the fence. I Can't say he has done any improvement beating those teams and Kentucky..... Well everybody beats Kentucky (except us last year).

I can't wait tell they fire Dooley....the poor fool that takes the UT job be bashed to hell and back after his first season as well when he wins about 3 games. Tennesee couldn't win right now if we had Nick Saban and his staff on the sideline because we may have the worse group of players I've ever watched wear a Tennessee uniform and more so defense than offensive. At this point in Tennesse football history just hiring a new coach ain't going to fix the problem....we HAVE TO sign better players or its going to be more of the same with different faces. So lets fire Dooley and then everybody will have a new name to bash on every week next season.

Here is the reality of the situation: OBama has performed poorly and is in over his head. He blames much of his troubles on Bush or the current Replublicans in the House or Senate. HE WILL BE RE ELECTED:::
He will lose the popular vote but will win the Electoral College.

Dooley has performed poorly and is in over his head. Blame is put on Kiffin, Fulmer and Hamilton for the reasons for Dooley's issues. HE WILL BE THE U.T. FOOTBALL COACH IN 2013. He will lose his teams support and most of the fans support but the Powers That Be will keep him in place.

Do y'all see the similiarities?????

none you are a moron take a gargabe bag out of your utility closet place it over your head duct tape it firmly around your neck and breathe deeply and often!

Who is the one charged with signing those players? Oh, right, that would be Derek Dooley.

Do you have a source that 5 coaches turnes us down?

unless he is mike Hamilton, he doesn't know for sure.

Lots of innuendo on this but what seems to be pretty sure is that muschump was offered a $3.5mil deal and turned it down. Unclear who else got a formal offer. Cutcliff did not. Sumlin and golden were probably next in line after Dooley. Troy Calhoun was in the discussion.

How is it dumb? you, among others, always cry about not getting a big name coach and all this but that fact of the matter is no big name coach wanted to come here, and we will find that out again after this year

Because we weren't showing them the money. It's all about the money. Offer it, and they will come.

There have been many people confirm that cutcliffe was offered the job. As well as calhoun. Kelly was also contacted by hamilton or the 2nd time

Thats right so fire him.....and three years down the road when Tennesse is still winning about 5 or 6 games a year we'll be looking for another new coach and then another new coach and so on and so on. Tennesse has to find somebody who's able to go out in the country and recruit.....Kiffin wasn't able to do it....Dooley has shown he can't do it either and next guy in line most likely will not as well......Because todays high school seniors have better choices right now to play at winning programs. The kind of players Tennessee has got to have to turn this program around are going to go to places like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida and so on. So this deep hole we are in is not going to change anytime soon no matter who's on the sideline.

My arguments for keeping Dooley are:

1. Plenty of leg room at football games.
2. Having a nice reading environment in the sunshine.
3. More entertaining sports radio.
4. Better parking spots.
5. Cheap tickets.
6. The ability to go golfing or fishing on a Saturday without feeling like I am missing out.
7. Makes me more excited for basketball season.
8. Wondering what (negative) record will be set this Saturday.
9. No game is a sure thing.

If Saban came here when Dooley did and we had the same roster starting don't you think we would be better? Maybe we keep JJ and BB. There is no doubt he would have recruited better players so we wouldn't even be in this situation. Do you agree?

That falls into if's and but's. Don't know if we would be but better or worse. Most people on this forum would probably say hell yes we'd be national champs this year if Saban was head coach.....but I tend to believe we'd be pretty much about the same. We have alot of player issues, we're just not very talented on the defensive side of the ball right now.

We just gave up 48 points to Troy. A Sun Belt team with a 4-4 (now 4-5) record. If Dooley lands the #1 recruiting class the Vols will still struggle to be bowl eligible with him coaching them.

Your right, this is the worse defense I've seen play at UT in my 40 years of watching Tennessee football that I remember. BUT, Tennessee IS NOT....i repeat...IS NOT going to recruit the #1 class in college football next Febuary no matter who the coach is....Ain't going to happen. When the top 100 high schools senoirs list is posted look and see where they are going....it want be UT.

Dooley can't recruit OR coach. Other than $$$ what is the justification for keeping him? We get top 25 classes based off what reputation the Tennessee brand has left. We could at least find a guy that could coach the players that do sign. Dooley isn't going to do it.

So you don't think NS would have recruited better players and we wouldn't be this bad? And you also don't think he would have these players more fundamentally sound and better coached ? And you brought up the ifs and buts by saying NS could do no better.

Considering 5 coaches turned us down before dooley accepted it and all the lane kiffin stuff, and us being inestigated by ncaa.. yes it was a mess

Well, when we only offered Muschamp a tiny bit more than he was making at Texas, and we told Cutcliffe that he could not choose his own staff, then, yeah, other coaches turned us down.

Hamilton was an idiot. Pay top dollar for a good coach, let him run his program, and fire him if the job does not get done.

Muschamp only makes 2.75 mil at UF, we offered in or around the 3 number.

I'm with ya....fire him today for all i care. But he's just the tip of the iceburg of the problems in Knoxville. So you gotta start somewhere and the coach really is the easiest thing to start with first. I'm just going to sit back and watch the next poor sucker get his clock cleaned for the next 2 or 3 years and then see what the next step is.

The argument that Dooley inherited a mess, and that he has us going in the right direction went right out the window last night. They were never legit arguments in the first place, but now the proof is there for all to see. The team Dooley inherited would not have given up 48 points to Troy at home. Not even with Dooley coaching. We're not moving in the right direction. Fact is, we're nowhere close to competing in the SEC. We're less competitive than we were in Dooley's first season. We've become Hal Mumme's Kentucky teams. Score a ton of points with nothing to show for it.

Listen, jackal, Dooley doesn't call the defensive shots. The offense is way better than it was last year. But even I have to admit when it came to Bama, we couldn't find the end zone if we'd been lying on it. Yet even in all other games we lost to big boys, the offense produced. It's the defense that isn't make our scoring stand up. That's Sunseri's area, not Dooley's. We even have a running game this year with backs that weren't first string last year. The OL can actually push now. It's teh defense that made Troy look like the other Trojans that play out of Cauliflower, I mean California. We got firepower, we just don't have shields to hold the Vulcans and Klingons at bay.

Ah, the ole "nobody else wanted the job, so we should thank Dooley for just being here". Of all the pro-Dooley arguments, this one is the dumbest by a wide margin.

It may be dumb but it's the truth. If we had the money, we probably could attract some of those coaches who turned us down. But that'd be because CDD has recruited a foundation of players to build on. Something that was in place when he was hired.
