The Association Football Thread

I don't know as much as you do or as much as a lot of people on here, but I would absolutely LOVE to have Bale with Liverpool.

Well, I definitely don't know anything at all either, but just guessing.. Bale seems to be a Liverpool type player, and it wouldn't surprise me if he made the move over the summer.

Puyol or not, I don't think Arsenal can advance without RVP and Walcott. His speed opened up a lot of opportunities in the first match and neither Bendtner or Chamakh can finish like RVP. Nasri has gone awol as well.

Calling out Bendtner and Chamakh seemed to work pretty well. Who's next? I'm thinking Arshavin.

I'm thinking Arsenal are going to play Bendtner up top with Nasri, Cesc, and Arshavin behind him. I'm not sure they can score with that lineup to be honest. Arshavin hasn't been good this season and Bendtner just isn't a good player.

Arshavin is the personification of this team, tons of talent but you only rarely see it in full force and ultimately it's maddening. One of those 4 is definitely going to have to step it up and Wilshere is going to have to play as well as he did the first leg.

The injury news for next week's second leg keeps getting better for Barcelona and troubling for Arsenal. Puyol returns to training yesterday and now Alex Song is a doubt for the game next week. Arsenal better hope Wilshere is best player on the field again or they are in trouble.

Diaby will step in for him and it won't be the WORST drop off.

However, something you are discrediting is that we were without Sagna in the back in the last matchup where you only scored one goal. He will be back there and our D will be much stronger. I have faith we can do it.

As for Wilshere, it wouldn't surprise me if he did show out again. I think it isn't long until he is the best midfielder in the world, forget the pitch.

What would you have said about Torres this time last year? and I recall people saying the same thing about Andy Carroll.

$$ speaks volumes.

Torres wanted out though clearly showing he had zero interest in Liverpool winning games.

I'm meh on Diaby. Sagna should be an upgrade even though I thought Eboue played a lot better than I expected. Wilshere looked so good in the first leg and didn't show any intimidation going against the best midfield in the world.

I think the bigger field at the Nou Camp is going to play a big factor in opening up the game. I'm expecting Wenger to clog up the middle again letting Alves and Maxwell to run unmarked down the flanks. That's one position where we need more impact in this game as I thought we attacked too centrally last game.

I agree that the pitch is going to play a huge factor, and I hope that Arsenal can use it in their favor as well. Also, didn't know if you remembered but Pique is not going to be able to play due to suspension. So, if Puyol misses that is both CB's out. If by some miracle he can't play that could be a huge difference.

I am hoping that with more space in the middle it will help Nasri be shifty and make things happen like he is so good at doing. Granted, I know it will do the same for Messi and friends, but I am just hoping for the best. Luckily for us you all do not have much size going up front so hopefully if you get the flanks open we can divert crosses in the air. Although we are pretty poor in the air on defense most of the time.

I agree with the meh on Diaby. However, I will raise you a meh on Song as well (on most days). haha

Well, he was already a proven player. Bale is coming into the world class level so he is still working to get there, regardless of club loyalty. I would say I agree that he would stay there in previous footballing years, but with today's players I couldn't say that about anybody.

Puyol should be back. I'm hoping he can get the start this weekend to get back in form. This team is just on another level when Puyol plays for some reason. I can't really explain it. We've basically every game he's played in this season and lost or tied several where he was out. If Puyol is back, him and Abidal will be slighty better than the first leg.

I wouldn't expect any us to make many crosses in the air. Our wingbacks will always fly down the edge looking to cut in and make early ground crosses and laybacks around the six.

Speaking of Gareth Bale, what is the obsession with him? He has basically had three good games this year and been anonymous the rest of the time.

Bayern is playing wretchedly. LVGs days are probably numbered.

that was a killer we had to have that win if we had a chance to catch man u

not true.. they haven't played well this year and it is finally catching up with them. They still have some tough games ahead of them, and the meat of our schedule is behind us. Look for them to draw at Anfield tomorrow.

Either way, we are gonna have to win the rest of our games and they will have to stumble. Not saying we WILL do it, but just saying we still have a very realistic chance.

in case you aren't watching it...

Go watch the highlights of the Liverpool vs Man United game on caughtoffside.com after it is over. You HAVE to see Suarez' run.

Come on Liverpool.

That is right come on Liverpool. I'm miserable. Can't watch it. I went to justin.tv but it wasn't working right.

All I have found is that it is 1-0.

3-0, Kuyt hat-trick.

Glory, Glory Man United... Well, if being ripped to shreds is glory. ;)

Edit: Fox Soccer is the bomb. You should look into it. It was only $6 a month extra on Charter, and $5 on Directv.

Thanks man. I have charter. I'll get it.

By the way, I am loving this! Besides liverpool, I will admit I like the style of play the Gunners use.
