I like to look at player comps from KenPom and see similarities/patterns. In some of his earlier years it was kind of interesting the players had some similar comps to Barnes’ former players from Texas. Like the way he uses players results in similar statistics.
This type of thing is how Nate Silver got into his line of work. Basically using player comps to make player projections. So I think it’s interesting to see who our players comp with and what kind of trajectory those players had. For example Santi from the beginning has comp’d consistently similarly to Ryan Arcidiacano. So I’ve been pretty optimistic about his development, even early when it seemed like a lot of people on this board hated on him. He clearly was at his best when they got more of a true PG in Ennis/Brunson. Same w Scovi. And now JJJ is comping similarly to some former Nova players. Makes you kind of wonder about our potential as a team if we have guys who fit the mold of some of the players on teams who won Natty’s and who else around them needs to fill comparable roles to players in those squads. Can Aidoo be a Ochefu? Rebound, play D, and be efficient around the rim? Granted he was a senior on that championship team, but still.
And speaking of Big East, it’s interesting to see the connections between some of these player comps, like KC comping similarly to Kemba and ZZ to Napier. I think there’s a lot to unwrap w this kind of data. But it’s fun to look at
