Yeah, I don’t understand why it seems out of the question to trade for Machado then spend to keep him. We’re going to be contenders soon. I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be interested in staying if the money were right. I know he’s said he prefers to not play 3rd so I suppose that’s a factor.

No way. It’s gonna take a King’s ransom to land him. And he isn’t the piece to put us over, so wait until the offseason.

I’d be willing to make a trade for Machado under three conditions:

We have a sizable lead in the NL East

We don’t trade Soroka

We keep Riley as insurance

He O’s are horrible pitching. I wouldn’t mind throwing something like Gohara, Fried, Anderson, Peterson, and a C grade pitching prospect for Machado and a reliever in July. The question is would Machado or Swanson be okay moving to third for a couple months.

That’s three top 100 prospects, a guy who has hit at every level that can play outfield. For a 2-3 month rental that’s a good deal for the O’s.

Or Atlanta could trade like Fried and Sims for a lower option at third (like Moustaskas, or Castro, or Beltré) that’s out of the race and keep their big guns. That would be fine too. AA will most likely do something if the Braves are in contention.
