I would have hit for him in the bottom of the inning with the runner in scoring position for that exact reason.

I think I'd have let him hit for himself there. But there needed to somebody up and throwing. If he gets the 3rd out here, it won't matter much.

My basic philosophy is that once a pitcher has got himself into a position where you're thinking about hitting for him ridiculously early, you might as well go ahead and do it and take your chances with somebody else.
 
We'll damn Ron. Maybe he got to that one because he was playing Freeman to pull and the Ellis double was opposite field, hence Upton was shaded to center.
