The Atlanta Braves Thread

We haven't exactly been a dominant force either.
Not singling you out, but...

I don't think we really picked up that many new or bandwagon fans from our 2022 season. However, the amount of bellyaching over this team's performance the last season in a half, after late stage Fulmer + Kiffin + Dooley + Butch + Pruitt is truly amazing. So many people seem to have forgotten how bad we were.

We are 16-5 (8-5) since the beginning of the 2023 season. The tone in these postgame threads in particular, which are mostly after wins, mind you, is like we are still in the throes of Dooley or Pruitt.

We went 85-88 (40-74) from 2008 to 2021. I'm enjoying this.

*ducks head* I’m actually worried that Heupel cannot do anything other than stick to the scheme script and isn’t that good of an in-game coach *backs away slowly*
Not being snarky in the way that this will come across but... I'm not sure what this means. Or what you might be envisioning in-game differently. More or less of what?

This is every coach. Maybe even the best ones *more* stubbornly so. Tons of evidence and confirmation of your scheme/plan working.

If it felt schizophrenic or disorganized, we'd all have pitchforks. Quick.

Has a scheme that requires certain things of the QB and run game and they go out and try to execute it. I'd like to see more legit downhill power running from heavy formations, but that could be a situational wish.

I know it's just a thought, not you coming off the top rope. But. Been chewing on it.

We are at a level, with a good chance to stay there for a bit, of, "Not perfect, but they gotta come play us."

YEARS of teams laughing at Tennessee on the schedule. No stress at all about the week. To, "Ugh, we gotta play them and that smart-ass head coach."

Amongst a lot of teams trying to be the biggest and baddest, being able to say "Hey, bet. We'll see on Saturday, but ya better buckle up." is the standard I have in my head.

About all anyone gets and about all one can hope for.

I feel like since Arkansas it's been way more execution than scheme. And even against Arkansas if the OL and Nico play average they win. We still don't attack the middle of the field in the passing game enough for my liking.

Our 12/TE package has been effective all season. I wish we used it more. More slants also, especially from 4 wideout packages. Bring the outside receivers on slants and the inside receivers run out and go’s. Good bet at least one DB misses a switch.

I'm not arguing that we aren't better. I'm purely arguing about the top 12/ playoff caliber teams. I would expect a natty level team to hang 50 on that UK team we played and have the starters out the 4th quarter.
Look at what Miami did to Duke or Oregon has done the last few weeks. Nobody is really separating themselves as an Elite team against bad teams this year.

Heup’s scheme works. But he doesn’t seem to deviate from it at all when it doesn’t work. Example: we didn’t try anything in-game against UK with Sampson or Lewis in the passing attack. They weren’t even worried about the RB in the passing game. No wheels or outs or cheap check downs (at least that I remember). Whenever we get smacked in the mouth, we keep trying the same old scheme.

The scheme is great. Have zero qualms with it. Don’t feel he’s great at making adjustments.

Also, the amount of penalties is alarming to me too but that is a separate issue.

I run 6 plays, split veer. Like Novocain give it time always works

But we do this. Many of our outside concepts are some sort of option/switch that destroy based on miscommunication.

And we've barely missed... top of my head... 7? 8? of em this year.

Penalties... Fair. Procedural penalty hell is my biggest concern in Athens (nevermind the 1st round talent on their defense).

I feel like we've incorporated screens more this year than I can remember. Couple involved squirrel as the blocker which we all disliked. We ran a TE screen against bama! And a speed option!

I admittedly haven't had my eyes on film enough to know the RB progression. Maybe they're in longer to protect. But we certainly don't go out of our way to use them, even though we did a few delayed shovels early on.

The most "creative" trendy cutesy play caller in the country is in state college and he made out like a doofus this past weekend.

Are you saying the Miami-Duke and recent Oregon results are evidence of parity, or of butt-kickings from top teams you'd like to see more of?

Kentucky gave up 13 to Georgia. 20 to Ole Miss.

Florida put up 48 in the swamp off Vandawhiff turnovers... and 1 fewer yard of offensive than we put up on Saturday.

The play we hit to Thornton in Norman paired with the shell we went into offensively in that game is frustrating. Nico being so young and so willing to throw those balls is to be cherished.

Granted, we dropped 2 TDs attacking the middle of the field on Saturday.

Dominance I think playoff caliber teams should show over the rest of the field.

Checkerboards ya would've died, gone to heaven, and returned to force Mario Cristobal to join you if we had all experienced Miami's season thus far.
