This was mainly because of Saban being present and other big named Bubba guys. It was a charade. So freaking hilarious that we went into their house and took care of business. With the officials controlling the tempo and the announcers speaking as if the game had already been won from the jump by Bubba, this is a true laugh in their face moment. Vols pooped all over that parade......
I was really glad Nick, Deboer, and the rest of the toothless brigade got to witness what football vs UT is going to look like for the coming years.

At least at Tennessee the math minor requires higher level math courses as well. I took Analysis, Advanced Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics (not stats, in this one you learn the calculus derivations of the formulas), and I think an advanced linear algebra course? It's been too long. Oats sounds like a probability and stats guy, but he didn't come up with the efficiency approach that they talked about during the interview last night. It was talked about at sports analytics conferences and used by other coaches at different levels, I think for the first time in NCAA D-I with the Florida Gulf Coast women's team under Karl Smesko: Karl Smesko: FGCU's mad scientist - The Next

That analytical approach is the philosophy behind the Golden State Warriors' offense, too, and has been enormously influential in other NBA offenses as well. The mid-range game is basically dead because everybody realizes a long 2 is about as hard as a 3 but it's worth less and easier for a team to defend.
Math education isn’t the same as a math minor. my wife was a math major who got a masters in education. Her math education classmates in that masters program were not on the same level she was.

That was creepy. Our 23-6 record supersedes their 20-9 record in a year where both teams have had brutal schedules. Our tournament run last year matched their tournament run last year, even though they had a generational talent. Barnes has beaten Oats three times in a row currently.

Oats is a very good coach and he fits the Alabama criteria quite well. Maybe 20 years from now, I’ll see what Bilas sees if Oats accomplishes certain things for the long haul. The media is going to “media” you but Bilas has some obvious bias concerning Oats. Maybe it’s just a man crush, pure and simple. Who knows. Maybe it’s no coincidence that “Bilas” is just spelled “bias” with an L stuck right in the middle.

That's true, but I'm not in the same level either, having had a math minor. I was just trying to say if Oates's math education major included all the classes of a math minor, he had to do advanced math and not stop at differential equations.

Some of the folks who were in class with me and worked with me at the Math Tutorial Center went on to major in math and become professors, which cracked me up because they were terrible students in Calculus as freshmen. I guess some folks really do grow up.

Bilas was an assistant for the great Duke teams that Hurley played for. Oats was an assistant for Hurley at Buffalo. I assumed that was the connection that got Oats such favorable treatment. Oats has done a good job at Bama…if you can overlook the Brandon Miller issue (I cannot).
The ACC brass have never liked Coach Barnes because when he showed up at Clemson he didn't kiss K and overrated Dean Smith's feet and bow down and worship them. Got in Dean's face. That was a no-no in that league and it was the King of basketball leagues back in those days. Almost all of ESPN commentators originated from that era of ACC basketball.

Still can’t believe Oats had Nelson in the game with four fouls and seven minutes to go. You just don’t. Do. That.
He's like Butch Jones he has his own metrics, when they work he's great but when they dont bad news. It was tempting to want Barnes to play Awaka & Aidoo after they got their early fouls in first half but Barnes knows its a 40 minute game, got to stay the course for win # 803.

That’s kind of funny because Roy Williams and Coach K are clearly Barnes advocates. Not saying he didn’t hack off ACC officials back then, but a number of coaches most familiar with the details of that scenario will say that Barnes was in the right.

Yup, Barnes knew that if his smaller lineup could get him into the last few minutes of the game with a close score, the game was ours to win.
Once Oats lost Nelson, we were going to absolutely own the paint in the closing moments.

I really enjoyed this interview with Barnes about the incident. Seems like Barnes thinks he was in the right but should have handled it differently. An ugly confrontation that mellowed into respect and kindness over time.

I found it ironic if you’ve actually seen the film.

It’s about a high IQ paranoid schizophrenic, who at one point leaves his child in the bathtub under the supervision of one of his delusions.
a good but tough movie for me to watch.

BTW i refused to bwatch Gameday thT day

I wasn’t on that level either, but I got the impression that the math Ed folks didn’t have to have the higher level classes.

When did you work at the tutorial center? I worked there 06-09 and that job was how I met my wife!

I was there I think 01-07. I think I started my second semester. So we probably met. I didn't meet my wife there but I did get her a job there. Pretty good gig.

Probably. Definitely a really nice campus job. Flexible hours, good pay, and if nobody needed help you could get your homework done or chat with the other workers. Plus Dr Long was a great guy.

He has gained the old coaches respect over time. I'm not sure the media feels the same way.

Oh, I think it was brilliant. The rest of that league had just given up on beating with Duke and NC. I think he was sending a message and I think it was premeditated.
