Very true.....hard to argue with a 37-3 record though
fyp we might have some youngsters here who are like what the hell was so great about unlv in2001.:hi:96 UK - Best team I've ever seen. Ridiculous talent and depth at every position.
91 UNLV - They were better than the 90 team who won it all....I'm sure they got paid well for throwing the Duke game.
07 UF - Yes, I'm biased. But chances are at no point in my lifetime will I ever witness back-to-back national titles again. That team had no weaknesses offensively and everyone played their role to perfection.
This does not make much sense. You admit that no one considers UT 1998 team as one of the best champs, yet you say it is hard to argue against KU and their 37-3 record. UT was 13-0.
By your logic, the following teams would be better than that KU squad:
1999: UConn
1996: UK
1995: UCLA
etc., etc.
That KU team was good; they were not close to the best ever, though.
They didn't win the title but I always thought the Phi Slamma Jamma Houston team that lost to NC State at the buzzer was one of the best.
I'm all for retroactively awarding the 1983 NCAA championship to that Phi Slamma Jamma team. We can just call the epic "Phi Slamma Jamma vs. Doctors of Dunk" semifinal game the de facto national championship game...and pretend the final didn't happen. Houston had nothing left in the tank after the track meet that was the semifinal game.
Here is an excellent piece on that game: ESPN.com - E-ticket: Jamfest For The Ages
Read it. Seriously...it's really really good.

You can award it, but I watched every game NC State played that in the tournament that year and they were amazing. I think they were down 6 with ten seconds to go in the first round.
I guess I just like underdogs.
Oh, and my dad went to NC State.

I love the "shoulda coulda woulda" crowd.
I would have been a great neurosurgeon had I bothered to go to medical school.
See, I can do it too.
