Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon, I feel this way because of how consistant they are and they can hop in most any race car and win a race, road sprint car ect.

They've certainly accomplished the most in their racing (not just NASCAR) careers. Obviously there's something to that.

if by two best drivers, you mean two best NASCAR drivers, then yes, it would be hard to argue with Gordon and Smoke, but you must also include Jimmie Johnson is that debate.

if by two best drivers you mean best in the world, then you are way off.

Just using their stockcar/NASCAR accomplishments, I'd still have Gordon and Stewart as the best two... only two guys out there now with multiple championships.

Depends on your def. of driver. I would put those two as best racers. But as far as driving a car I have seen Edwards and Biffle do some incredible things with a racecar!

I hate Smoke with a passion but he's definatley one of the most talented. Going by just talent peroid you would have to put Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle.

Not really a pilot though, thats what people ask when I say I'm in the AF.

"Really, what kind of plane do you fly"

I'm just checking in here and making sure USAF isn't trying to pawn Bobby Labonte off as one of the best drivers..

Well being a Busch series and Nascar Champ, I mean. That doesn't mean anything does it? Cause I thought it was good, I mean, unless OWB says otherwise.

If we're talking about NASCAR over the past decade, then it's hard to say that "Smoke" and Jeff are the best(even though I a #24 Fan). Jimmie Johnson has been the most consistent driver since he's been racing in NASCAR. Take a look at the stats since 2001-2002.
Overall, now that's a different story. I'd say the "KING" -Richard Petty was the best-having won over 200 races during his career. Will that be broken? Who knows? Jeff might. He's got over 70 wins-at least I think he does.

JJ has certainly outperformed Gordon since they've both been in the same equipment full-time.

But, since JJ has accomplished exactly nothing in anything other than a HMS car, I'd still take Gordon over him.

No one will get close to 200 wins.

If Gordon doesn't get to 100, I doubt anyone else will. As many races as there are now, they raced 50 or 60 times a year back in Petty's hayday. There's also not any incentive to stick around and make your living that long anymore, either. Not to mention the competition level rises every year. The current drivers will have a fantastic career if they win over 50 races. There is quite a few of them right now that have between 10 and 30 or so.

Dale Sr. was the last of the record setting drivers. nobody will touch 7 Cup titles as well.

There lies the question. Gordon and Stewart are great drivers, but Nascar is different now. Teams share a bit, but not all. In this day and time, it takes a team to win a cup. I am a Gordon fan, and not ashamed to admit it. But, things have changed even since he won his last cup. It is all about consistency. Winning here and there gets naught, if you aren't in victory lane every week, that's OK. Top 5 and 10 finishes on a consistent basis brings it home these days. Ray Evernham, and Jeff Gordon got the pit times to a sick time. That makes a difference Pit times win championships. Also, gas mileage, brakes, etc. It isn't the balls to the walls strategy anymore, it is the clever person in the background. For example.....restart. Do we hang back for the win, get the draft and the sling? There lies the lapped cars. They are fighting for a lap, and you are blocked. Punch it hard, and go low? Or maybe it is green, white, checkers. Fuel is low, and so then what do you do? IMHO second is the first loser, so you gas it. Have faith in your driver, and hold your breath. If it isn't a matter of fuel, then I say bury the damn throttle, and go for the W. Motors are won and bought in this era.
