The best way to beat Georgia on Saturday

I posted several weeks ago that the 2003 game at Miami seems like a solid comparison. Miami was the dominant program at the time. They came into the game just lost their first regular season game in forever (Va Tech) and had the longest home win streak.

They had questionable O-line and QB play while Tennessee was a run heavy, defense focused type of team that did just enough to pull of an ugly 10-6 win.

I def think scoring more points is very helpful in trying to get a win.

I’ll hang up and listen. LOL

I was 20 and drunk a lot. Maybe YouTube could help. You’ll have to show this blue hair how it works.
Ha! In all seriousness, I have a lot of respect for older gentlemen. I hope y'all know I was joking. One of the highlights of my week is sitting on my pastor's back porch smoking cigars with a dozen or so men in their 50s-80s.

As much as would love to see that, and as much as I love our defense, they haven't held any SEC team to less than 14 points this season. I don't expect them to now.
That's true. I'm curious to see if Heupel decides to slow the game down Saturday and work the clock. Something we've seen at times this year but not something we've build a game plan around.

If they do what I think they will, and it works, they will do exactly that. But who knows. We all know Heup loves to chunk it deep 3x a game. Maybe they can hit on 1-2 chunk plays. It would really loosen the D up and maybe even help our D get into some pass rush situations.

We have to throw some, Georgia’s secondary has struggled all year. For sure we have to run but we have to take shots down field. If we can pass some early it will only help the running game. GBO

How many of y'all remember the game Alabama's defense had against LSU in the national championship back in 2012?

LSU was 13-0 and were coming off back-to-back blowout wins against #3 Arkansas 41-17 and #16 Georgia 42-10 in the SEC Championship. Then they play Alabama in a rematch for the national championship, and this happens:

View attachment 697408

LSU's offense did not cross the 50-yard line the entire game. Alabama scored 1 touchdown and kicked 5 FGs on their way to 21-0 shutout victory. DEFENSE, BABY. This is how we beat Georgia.

Run the damn ball down their throats.

The best way to beat UGA is playing our game. Beck is good for a couple turnovers and Sampson can run wild. I say we win by 2 scores tomorrow. The only reason it's gonna be that close is UGAs at home. This isn't ol UGA. Go back and watch the Ole Miss game. They won by 18 and the game wasn't that close. We win and win big.

To stay in the playoff hunt I don't even know if we need a win, we just can't get blown out of the stadium.
Excluding some odd events with other teams, Tenn will NOT be invited to playoffs with a 10-2 record. Even a 3 loss Bama team that loses close game to Texas in SECCG gets in over our boys. Just the way it is. There would be lots of hollering if this happens but it is set up to be just so. I don't like it either.

The Georgia we see Saturday will look much more like the one that whipped Texas than the one that lost to the Rebs last week (Texas rushed for about 35 yds total). It will be shocking for many to see the difference. Typically we really struggle to run against Ga and we struggle to stop the run. Yes, I know it looks as though it could be different this year, but I'll believe it when I see it. Also look for Ga to come head-hunting for Nico early and often. So he is at real risk with our pedestrian O line. However, Go Vols.
