If anyone has seen this movie, why did it appear that all of the other coaches were most intimidated by Phil Fulmer recruiting wise? Once Fulmer rolled up, the GA coach (cant remember if it was Richt) just left. They made it out like once he rolled up, it was all over for everyone. i know it is a movie but was this even close to reality when Oher was a high school prospect?

B/c the kid really liked UT first and foremost and really liked Fulmer. That is why. Ole Miss came in the picture late in his recruitment. That is why the coaches acted that way. Besides the fact that some of Fulmer's teams had incredible offensive lines, not in the later years...yeah yeah I know, but for about the first decade of his tenure we sent lineman after lineman to the pros, so he clearly knew how to recruit OL's.

I seen the movie and noticed the same thing. Probably more intemidated by the school he coached than Philly himself!! Who knows, pretty good movie though. That family that adopted him was crazy rich, dayum!!

Wow I just watched this yesterday and thought the exact same thing about Fulmer. I was funny to hear coach O say " He really peppers the Gumbo."

I was hoping to get a more realistic view of what a recruit goes through but it seemed more "Cookie Cutter" when all the coaches came to visit him.

That kid was going to Ole Miss from day 1. His adopted mother hated Fulmer and bashed him to everyone. If he went anywhere but Ole Miss, it would have been to LSU has Saban stayed. His adopted father is a major Ole Miss booster and a former star basketball player there. Hollywood dresses this movie up to cover up a lot of BS. TN never had a shot.

I loved the movie... but personally i wish they would have went a lil more in depth in recruiting, maybe a Official to Tennessee or Ole Miss? Idk but i still really liked it and would advise anybody to watch it.

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that until the later years when he actually got out and recruited kids, he was a great recruiter.....Then he got lazy/complacent

This. There was no way in hell that kids adopted parents were letting him near Knoxville.

Fulmer was asked about the movie and how it really went down on the radio a while back.

He basically said that they were looking out for "his best interest, or what they thought his best interest was at the time." Said sometimes kids dont get as much say in there decision as they should but hes happy things turned out well for him.

You could tell it was something he felt strongly about but wouldnt go into any details about it.

Blind Side was a great movie and I would highly recommend it. So did Fulmer snitch on the Oher's legal guardians? I didnt catch that part, but it wouldnt surprise me. That movie had alot about Tennessee, from the fact that Mrs. Tuhoy hated the Vols, to the fact that it seemed like Oher really wanted to go there. The movie would have been alot better if Oher would have went to Tennessee. Hopefully he wouldnt have hung out with Gerald jones, Nukeese, or the basketball team though.

I went to high school and played basketball with Big Mike for three years. He definitely wanted to go to UT, but the Tuohy's really don't like UT. Throughout the entire recruiting process Trooper Taylor was at the school more than any other coach, and Mike always wore UT gear. Even the head high school football coach wanted him to go to UT. The final decision came down to the fact that the Tuohy's wanted him at ole miss, Mike wanted to stay close to home, and his high school football coach was offered a position on the ole miss coaching staff.

Wonder where his high school coach has landed since then?

Head coach at Lambuth University OC at SDSU.

According to "Meat Market" Freeze was hired more because his familiarity with the Memphis area, and recruiting than he was simply to get Oher.

EDIT: beatbama beat me to it.

I wish Fulmer would have pulled Oher instead of Chris Donald, Bret Vinson, and all the other 5 star busts. Actually was Oher even a 5 star prospect??
