Yep. jimmies and Joes all dayMan, it is almost humorous the amount of times I've read on here that GA gave the blueprint for beating our offense. The blueprint has been there, anyone with a little knowledge on Xs and Os knew what was needed to slow down/beat our offense.
Georgia didnt invent a new defense or new scheme to show this "blueprint" being spoken of. It was honestly pretty basic football, the biggest wrinkle that caused the most problems was the late shifts by their front, but this isnt new either....Georgia has been doing this, and they wernt first team to ever do it....we did same thing when Chavis was the D coordinator.
The basic concept of what Georgia done was they lined up in the 3-4, they played man to man on the outside, 1-2 rushers, 2-3 dropping into shallow center to cover any receivers that came inside across the face of their man coverage. It was that simple for the most part.
The difference in Georgia and other teams is Georgia has athletes that can play man. If we do get another shot at Georgia....we can take advantage of Kelee Ringo, he doesn't have the hips to consistently stay on a receiver in man to man... don't get me wrong hes a hell of an athlete overall, but hes not an excellent corner. His hips are just too stiff for man coverage against top receivers.
This game was simply everything going against us all in the same day, ontop of playing a team that's too good to beat when you shoot yourself in the foot constantly. The constant false starts destroyed our tempo and allowed Georgia to sub players in that they otherwise would not have been able to get in and we would have had mismatch opportunities. We have heard it time and time again that mismatches and tempo is what this offense thrives on, and thats 100% accurate....so we cannot kill ourselves with presnap penalties because it completely changes what we're able to use playcalling wise.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day and Go Vols! Beat Mizz!
I think Bama has the athletes, they just didn't utilize them as well as UGA did. Ohio State has similar athleticism as well. That's probably it though.I would argue that nobody else does. Bama would probably be the second best team defensively athlete wise, and we saw that outcome.
I think muskrat watches TN film every week of the year he really hates UT for some reason and I think he has a insider at UT because he has always been good defending UT. LOL kidding sortaGa. wasn.t great on defense until Muschamp got there. I hate to say that, cause I don't like the guy. With the talent Ga. has, he's the key to their defense.
They just have more better athletes than we do, that's what several cycles of signing mostly all 4-5 star players. We'll get there with our recruiting but doesn't happen overnight. However, look at what this staff has done to develop the players we have and changed the culture of the team. The team plays together for one another--means a lot in terms of motivation and consistency in my opinion. Who would have expected this team to excel so much in a short time period? None I don't think, at least not us fans.UGA had some clever blitzes and their guys executed, but mainly they have the dudes necessary to stop us, most people do not.
I never saw 2 corners blitz at the same time. I saw em loading up on one side where we had to move our RB to that side then they blitzed the opposite corner. Our tackle couldn't get out on him. They only did that 3 times and only in the 2nd half. The blitz package they used in the 2nd half was very effective. When the Vols lined up with the WRs stacked close to each sideline and then emptied the backfield, UGA was pinching the DL into the center of the line closing any running lane for Hooker then dropped LBs back into coverage and blitzed the corners from each side. The Vols never really figured that out. However, I am sure they will have a counter for anyone else who tries this.
UGA's biggest adjustment was, they have better athletes than everyone else. Heupel is an offensive genius and he will have answers for anything UGA did to them on Sat........and no one else we will play will have the athletes that UGA trotted out there.
We've had an amazing season, I'm just saying you have to give them some credit coaching wise too, Bama has the same kind of athletes UGA does and we smashed them. There are two elements to slowing us down: 1) you need the athletes (maybe 3 teams have them, Bama, UGA and OSU) and 2) they have to be deployed properly and have to execute. UGA did both. Bama just had #1.They just have more better athletes than we do, that's what several cycles of signing mostly all 4-5 star players. We'll get there with our recruiting but doesn't happen overnight. Actually they mostly played us man to man in the secondary and brought 5-7 guys 60+ percent of the time. They stopped the run with 5 guys early was the big thing, that requires dudes who can win one on one consistently on the DL, and to get away with blitzing that much you've also got to be very good in one on one coverage and tackle consistently in space, which they did.Their front 3 man rush, beat our O line. That let them drop back more in coverage ...that's it.
Totally agree. That was their 3rd away game and it was a more hostile environment what they were used to. The only thing I wasn’t sure was why they didn’t call QB runs more. We had penalties to back us up, but Hooker got sacked way too much tooMan, it is almost humorous the amount of times I've read on here that GA gave the blueprint for beating our offense. There should’ve been a swing pass opportunity IMO. Maybe because we use the RPO?? it makes our RB block slower??I never saw 2 corners blitz at the same time. Not to correct you, but for comparison sake, Pitt ran a 4-3 cover 4 majority of the game. Narduzzi has always liked to keep both his safeties within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage and the strong safety might as well be considered in the box for run support. They were determined to stop/limit our rushing attack. Pretty big difference in what Pitt did and what Georgia did. They literally just did almost exactly what Pitt did, but with way better athletes.
