The Bracket

Since they are not in a conference, they need to be told to play a top 50 SOS or stay home. I know that would never happen, but dang I get tired of their cake walks.
In fairness, they do have a downside in the current format, in that they can only be seeded 5th- can never get a top 4 seed. And I think most years their SOS is much higher than it is this year

So potentially a third UGA v TEX game? Give me a break.

Oh, they want SEC teams to “play in the cold.” They’ve been saying it all season. It’s funny how the narrative is repeated during the season so when the bias of the final rankings come out, there is less push back.

Best case scenario:

Georgia gets beat by Texas, moving us up to 8 to host #9 Indiana
AND
Penn State beats Oregon so we face Penn State in round 2.
Crazy if you think Vols would pass Texas with this. They’d stay at 9.

who's been saying it all season?

If Georgia loses will they drop to the nine spot and go play Ohio state and will we move up to the seven and play Indiana at home ?

Not a chance. They will set it up to make it as difficult as possible for the "deplorables" - any ACC or Big 12 team, Indiana, and us - to advance beyond the first round.

You can guarantee that any of the "deplorables" will have the toughest draws, as they do whatever possible to help get the "elite" programs into the semis and final four. A final four made up of some combination of Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and Oregon is the goal, with two Big 10 teams and no more than two from the SEC preferable.

I see a lot of bitching about the 12 team playoff.

If we had a 4 team playoff, the Arkansas loss would've pretty much ended our chances of sniffing a Natty this year. Even if they took two SEC teams, it would be GA and TX.

This way, we're still in the hunt.

Is it perfect? Hardly. Is it better? For us, this year, obviously. Kiss the wife, hug the kids, pet the dog. We're actually in the CFP for a Natty.

What's not to like?

For those complaining that this is some kind of committee screw job or all done for TV viewership purposes, if the BCS rankings were used to determine the field, everything would remain exactly the same. The only difference is that SMU is ranked ahead of Tennessee in the BCS model, but Tennessee still gets sent to Columbus as the 9th seed.

Thought up a random CFP alternative because I figure it’d be hard to be more arbitrary. SEC/B1G don’t get home games, instead the teams with the best SOR get byes. Other conference champs or highly rated independents host instead; they don’t get byes like they ran an SEC gauntlet. It’d look something like:
  1. Rose: Oregon v (Alabama at Iowa State)
  2. Peach: Georgia v (Indiana at Boise State)
  3. Sugar: Texas v (Ohio State at SMU)
  4. Fiesta: Penn State v (Tennessee at Notre Dame)
Semis…
Orange: Rose and Fiesta winners
Cotton: Peach and Sugar winners

I will second that notion

how do you think the teams should be ranked? the flaw isn't in how these teams are ranked really. the real flaw is first round byes...

This all day.

All of the regular season games mean something now. 4 team playoff and that vandy game is meaningless. 12 team playoff and we were all on the edge of our seats because we actually had something riding on that.

there will always be people that are unhappy. it will not always work out in our favor. it does make for better football to watch through the regular/post season

The Oho ain't seen speed, like it will. I hope we play them in Columbus, and I'm sure we'll be sentenced to the Rose Bowl or Tempe for a showdown with the Oregon Quacks. That would be a shoot out. Josh knows how to score too. Plus tn knows a little bit about defense. 😅
Just wanted to revisit this. Looks like we were the slow ones and got totally outplayed in every facet. Thats what we get for being so cocky, even though we haven’t won anything in decades.
