The Braves Thread

What if he’s just an overrated coach and a bad person

Yeah that’s a perfectly fine opinion to have. If you have that opinion, I have no problem with that. And it’s not you guys in this thread for the most part, but I think it’s BS that a lot of Vol fans take a pretty baseless accusation and scream ENABLER OF CHILD RAPE because they didnt think he was a good coach or wasn’t a fit here. That my problem.

Enabler of child rape may be a bit far but it’s just as likely he knew that he didn’t

I think there’s plenty of evidence he’s no peach either way

So you think people more used his troubled past (multiple issues aside from Pedo State) as a crutch to not hire him because the greater desire was to have a better coach?

I think this was the case for some, but most, like me, didn’t want anyone with any tie to those horrendous crimes near the university we love. When we first hired him, or so I thought, I was deeply ashamed that he was even considered.

Z, you should be damn glad the fans stopped that hire. Accusations aside, it was also years of being force feed dog s hit while being the best fans in the world. People were fed up and had every right.

Force fed dog s hit, and accusations aside, he would have been a terrible fit here and put us even further behind. Do you really want Currie (a massive cuck) and Schiano? Who both sold their soul to Haslam or the f’ing Battle Captain and Redneck Kiffin, if you choose the latter you can thank Vol Twitter. And I, like you, tend to think VT is silly albeit hilarious at times.

My sentiments exactly. It was a boneheaded idea; especially in the wake of our Tittle IX problems. He might be a great guy, but it surely wasn't us that needed to be the ones to take a chance.

I don’t have a problem with a fan base standing up against a hire, my issue was I don’t believe the sincerity of “the revolution” being for moral purposes. I won’t forget that Jon Reed protest in front of Neyland and he grabs the bullhorn and one of the first things he says is “This isn’t about Greg Schiano being a ****** coach, although let me be clear he is a ****** coach.” That was more my point.

I’m not inclined to give Tennessee fans the benefit of the doubt but I think the Penn State stuff made the Tennessee fan base go from “that’s a terrible hire, I’m backing down on my support” to “this is embarrassing and we have to do something about it.”

Like, let’s say they try to roll out - I don’t know - Chad Morris to be the coach on the Sunday they tried to hire Greg Schiano. I think we’d all agree both those coaches would have been very average hires and it’s very likely Greg Schiano would actually be the better hire given his resume and experience. But one guy the fan base could have rallied FOR given some time to reflect on it, the other the fan base had to rally against to protect what’s left of this university’s reputation.

Yes I too consider somebody an enabler of child rape off a “I heard someone say from someone that this person saw something” testimony.

This is what I mean. I can understand saying “I dont want to hire anyone from Penn State during that time”. That’s perfectly fine. But this whole “he’s an enabler of child rape!” is so bogus.

This is not a criminal case. As far as I'm concerned merely being a _possible_ enabler of child rape is disqualifying enough. Just hire somebody else. It was blunt and ugly but in this case the mob more or less did the right thing.

This is funny, during a 7 game stretch Jose Ramirez was 0-16, but also walked 11 times during that stretch for a .408 OBP

He’s getting on base quite a bit but his lack of power makes him useless for the 5th spot.
I was just looking at that. He's slugging nearly 90 points less than last year. Him batting 5th makes about as much sense as Ender in the leadoff spot.
