The Braves Thread

You don't think getting a healthy Acuna, Riley, Harris, Ozzie, Strider makes us much improved over last season?

Not sure how that is even a debate. The last time we saw all of those guys (everyday players at least), we had a historic offense.
I think we'll be improved offensively assuming everybody stays healthy, yes. Especially if we get odd year Olson. I'm not wild about the bullpen. I expect SS to come back and be great, but I don't expect anything approaching a repeat from Sale and we have question marks after that. Potential, but question marks. Yet again, I don't think they're well-equipped to win a playoff series.

We're still giving everyday ABs to Murphy and Arcia. Also, I think Ozuna falls off a cliff at some point. I like the Profar addition because it keeps Kelenic from playing a ton, but there's a decent chance last year was an outlier. He's coming off a career, All-Star season (his only one) and will be 32 on Opening Day.

The Phils didn't improve, but were better than us last year. The Mets rotation is questionable; but it was questionable last year, they got better in other areas, we we finished with the exact same record as them. The Duds are the Duds. I don't think we improved one iota.

I don't see how we have a better shot to win than the Yankees, Phillies, or Mets.
The Philthies were better than us because we lost half of our team to injury.

After the AS Break the Braves were 36-31, despite missing Harris, Riley, and Ozzie for most of this time and obviously without Strider and Acuna. The Phillies were 33-33 after the AS break, despite no major injuries in the 2nd half of the season.

The Mets are the only team in the East that improved. And we still have a considerably better team than they do, position by position. And their rotation is a questionable to say the least.

Why is 2024 Profar possibly an outlier but not 2024 Murphy? Murphy was legitmately a top 5 catcher in baseball coming into 2024.

If you see good odds on the Phillies to miss the playoffs, you should take them. They are 1 Harper or Wheeler season ending injury away from being a .500 team.

Because Murphy didn't hit in 2021 or the second half of 2023 either. If anything, 2022 looks like an offensive outlier for Murphy. For a season and a half now, I think he's hitting under .200.

He was still above average in 2021 as well. A .710 OPS from a catcher playing in a very pitcher friendly park in Oakland is very solid.

And you also left out 2020.

What we know is that coming into 2024, he had a career .778 OPS. Every season but 2024 he finished within shouting distance of that number. But for some reason, I am to believe 2024 is a closer representation of his expected production...

He's still only had a season and a half of really good offensive production in his career (2022 and first half of 2023). The 43 game COVID year...eh. 2021 wasn't great and the second half of 2023 + all of 2024 were a black hole. He isn't some long-term, old reliable guy who had a bad year just last year.

NL central as mid as it gets per usual, but if a few things break right I could be talked into the reds. Cubbies offense still leave a lot to be desired for me and Brewers have some questions as well
I don’t get it.. same thing last year. It is the brewers for me until it’s not

Haven’t come close to getting all the legwork in but at first pass that’s mispriced

How are yall watching the games this year? I see Bally (well FanDuel Sports South) is offering a streaming option for 19.99/month. I am tempted to do it, but I really hate to support that company out of principle. The quicker Diamond Sports goes bankrupt, the better it will be for everyone.
