Nobody wanted to hear it.Were we kind of tricked by the D-line all year? They really only showed out against offenses that were mediocre or flat-out bad. UGA and OSU both had well-documented issues with their offensive lines at the time we played them (injuries and/or poor play) and they were pretty ineffective against both. Just super disappointing to see 2 offenses, and 2 QBs in particular (Beck and Howard) play perhaps their best games of the year against us. How in the hell did that team lose to Michigan and only score 10 points against them?
Also, last night brings Heupel to 3-7 in road night games at Tennessee, and 5 of the 7 losses are to mediocre-at-best teams. This seems like too long of a pattern now to be bad luck.
Ole Checkers was called a troll when he told yall this. Were we kind of tricked by the D-line all year? They really only showed out against offenses that were mediocre or flat-out bad. James Pearce bummed me out down the stretch. He got manhandled against UGA.Were we kind of tricked by the D-line all year? There's a lot of smoke that USCjr had our offensive signals (our game and the Clemson game the next week were the only games all year where their defense had armbands). We still scored 38 points.James Pearce bummed me out down the stretch. He got manhandled against UGA.
And yeah it’s an issue with Heup for sure. The good news is, if they can sneak into hosting a playoff game, they would have a chance.
However, I still don’t buy that South Carolina beat us straight up in 2022 and had help from Stallions. I’ll die on that hill.
He certainly needs to be better and much more decisive, but there are a ton of examples of guys that weren’t “finished products” until their junior or senior years. Also, Nico needs to probably be a finished product next year as far as his development. He needs help to get there, but he's gotta get better at processing and keeping his eyes downfield. It was fine to lean on the defense a lot this year - don't think that will fly next year.
I think he might need to get there next year given the pieces we're losing on defense. Who we get in the Portal remains to be seen, but next year might need to be the inverse of this year/more like 2022 (i.e., offense needs to be really good to cover defensive problems). If there's one position on the field that can be a huge masker of problems elsewhere, it is QB. He has the tools to do it - I think it is just a matter of getting him a couple more pieces and getting him to process things a tick faster. He certainly needs to be better and much more decisive, but there are a ton of examples of guys that weren’t “finished products” until their junior or senior years.
He needs a wideout that’ll make something happen and he needs to be able to have trust in his OL.
