1. Carr is leaving. Carr believes he can preserve eligibility, make more money and play more. Whether he is right or not doesn’t matter.
2. Carr has acted like a spoiled turd off and on the whole time he’s been here. I’ve expressed in the past that the legend of Carr has always been better than the actual Carr. He could keep it together in spurts, but ultimately acted selfishly in several instances.
3. Last week, we agreed to a better NIL for 25. He left anyway under some “advice”. He’s been close with Sanchez at UVA in the past, but also has some Louisville and Mizzou connections. Not sure where he’s going given his baggage.
4. There is (allegedly) some truth to the creepy story of Carr and DJ and (allegedly) underage girls. It contributed to DJ’s departure, but more importantly to Awaka’s. I said at the time that Tobe had some moral issues with certain players. I haven’t commented on who specifically, or why, because it involved a player’s family and (allegedly) minors. He was disgusted, and gave an ultimatum that resulted in Carr staying and him leaving. Barnes couldn’t take sides in a matter he knew nothing about, but Barnes loved Awaka and didn’t want him to go. To be a head coach today, you have to be shielded and shield yourself from certain realities. There are lots of groupies, and lots of temptations for these young men. I get that, and I understand there are lots of gray areas. That said, there is nothing acceptable about players compromising underage girls, if true. There are aspects of the Carr situation that have been messy and difficult from the start. He’s better off gone. Carr dug his own hole, dug out of it a few times, but he burned his last ticket. Maybe he needs a new start somewhere else. I’m not a pitchfork guy when it comes to player departures, but I am a bit relieved that he’s going.
