while i think the brew crew has loads of talent, I still don't think they are ready to be a WS threat, much less a division threat. It helps them that they play in the worst division in baseball, but it's time for them to put up or shut up. Weeks of padding their record against the likes of the pittsburgh, florida, the cubbies, houston, cincy, and st. louis, it's time to face real teams. The Mets, Phillies, Twinkies, Dodgers, Padres, and Braves are up ahead. I dare say the Brew Crew doesn't come within 3 games of a above .500 record in this stretch.

Should be an interesting stretch for'em. I've been a Milwaukee doubter as well and I'd like to see where they stand at the end of August. The hot start is certainly impressive and will help their cause later as I really don't see another team in the division that can get hot and catch them if they do start to slide a little bit. Perhaps the Cubs if a number of their bats can get going and if Hill/Marquis/Lilly continue pitching the way they have as well getting Zambrano turned around.

i'm still not done on the reds catching them either... although they are in the cellar. They definitely have the offense, if they can ever get bray and maj back in their bullpen, they'll be a lot better, even w/ narron guiding the ship. sorry tiddy, but you're cards are in serious trouble imho.

a little pittsburgh bias eh volsgal? bay and wilson are quality players, and i think pittsburgh is in a slow crawl to becoming contenders again one day, but they need pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

it will take more than bray, maj and guardado to fix the reds bullpen, it is the worst pen i have ever seen as a reds fan.

as an outsider, i have to disagree vkb. when you take out the best 3 relievers, the pen is going to stink no matter what. Guess we'll see though.

I would love to see the Pirates win the World Series in my lifetime. I love going to baseball games.

milwaukee seems to have this game in tow, up 9-3 on the mets in the 9th. 1-1 so far for this, IMO, pivotol stretch.

volfanbill, your an A's fan right? how much do the A's value Houston Street? would they be willing to send him and a prospect to the reds for adam dunn or griffey? i know they need outfield help and the reds would kill for some bullpen help.

he's our closer. I think he's pretty safe on beane's list, but you never know. we can't afford griffey and dunn is the most anti "beaneball" player in MLB. no way would beane take someone w/ so many strikeouts.

the reds could throw in Eric Milton and hit rediculous 10.3 million dollars a year contract.

the a's need a power hitter. or some middle infield depth. Unless you're paying for Milton, I don't think any team in baseball trades for him.

The reds are F'd in the Ay in two ways.
1. The bullpen is the worst peice of crap i have ever seen.
2. This is not a bad thing but the Reds have way to many outfielders. Dunn, Griffey, Freel, Hamilton, Norris Hopper (hes not that good but hes the man), Jay Bruce (one of the top two(most say #1) hitting prospects in the minors) will be up by next year, and Drew Stubbs (1st round pick, very raw but tons of potential). And Griffey, Dunn, Hamilton, and Bruce are all lefties. So Griffey or Dunn (or both) will be gone by next year.

(most ()'s ever in a post :)rock:))

only problem is right now we have kielty, kotsay, swisher, stewart, buck, bradley, and now snelling in the OF. granted 1/2 of them are injured, but at some point they will all get healthy. we're great defensively, and horrificly awful offensively. it's quite the combo. I'd be ticked if we traded Huston away

Dont forget Denoforia. You got him in a trade from the reds a week or two ago.

yeah, but after undergoing tommy john, we won't see him in uniform until next year. Any clue what two players to be named later the reds are interested in? or has then even been looked into?
