Very few, if any, good college basketball teams only play one defense. Just watch! All of the top teams in the nation play some zone. You mention length! Cuonzo Martin himself said after the Alabama game. "I like the 1-3-1 because there are generally no direct passes. You have to go over the top with lob passes. Our length makes it very difficult for teams to do that." Darius Thompson makes it difficult for one guard to pass to the other. He's had 2 or 3 steals in the 1-3-1 just doing that. Florida did not score a single field goal in 9 minutes of using it in the last two games and you ask why throw a zone on Florida? Give me a break!Man to man is best with this teams length. Why throw a zone on Florida...I seriously don't understand
What you actually had was a ref who got angry and threw the game to Florida! From a tie game to a four point lead and the ball, what referee would have not just given a warning?I can see it now. Slive gets on a conference call with all the refs and tells them that if it looks like Tennessee has a chance to win at the end of the game, do something to make sure Florida wins it! we have to have the number one team in the nation from the SEC.
