The camp circuit seems to be going well...

And how many of all those "elite" guys did we actually get? I get your point....but there is some great talent at our camps this year as well.

2 signed but it would have been 4 or those 5.

I'm not saying there hasn't been good talent at camp this year. I actually said there was good talent showing up in other posts, but its not on the same level as last year. It's just not.

Just don't be overly optimistic or pessimistic. Also, there is a poster by the name of Hatvol, don't challenge him. :good!:

There is also a Rod Wilks :worship:worshiping:worship: everyday at sun-up, make sure you are there.

Yeah, I have been witness to some of Hatvol's tirades.....and I know all about the legend of Rod Wilks

Smith was coming here no matter what....you know that. And Copeland would have been here if the last staff hadnt caused the school to be BANNED from recruiting him.

I think the EE deadline saved them with Miller and Smith. Especially Miller. Smith was telling a lot of people he was going to LSU as soon as the coaching staff moved on. Whether he would have stuck to that had the EE deadline not been in effect we'll never know. I'm just glad he and Miller are Vols.

My point was there was a ridiculous amount of elite talent at last year's camp.

James Wilder - #3
Ray Drew - #15
Jeff Pagan - #25
Nick O'Leary - #36
Jay Rome - #40
Antonio Richardson - #44
DeAnthony Arnett - #49
Eric MacLain - #54
Stephon Tuitt - #59 (maybe)
Gabriel Wright - #92
Lamar Dawson - #95
Giorgio Newberry - #97 (maybe)

All of these guys are in the top-100 and have either visited campus on Dooley's watch or should visit before summer's end.

I think you're selling Dooley short, MH. He's selling sand on a beach right now and still able to get very nice talent on campus...and it's not ever July yet. Maybe LV can come up with a list of who had visited at this point last year...

I've given Dooley credit and he has gotten some good talent on campus. And I agree that he doesn't have much to sell right now. That is in no way his fault. It's Fulmer's more than anyone's.

But the camp lists from this year compared to last year just aren't comparable in my opinion.
Unless I'm mistaken Tennessee had 3 4* commits at this time last year (Smith, Copeland and Brown).

I prefer to take the cautious approach at this point in time. I think the jury is still out on his staff as to whether they can be the closer's the previous staff was.

At this point last year, Copeland and Brown were 4* guys but coaches weren't exactly beating down their doors to recruit them either. Copeland's only legit offer was from Auburn and they'd told him he'd be "the only short guy they'd take in this class". I don't remember Brown's offers but I think FSU was about the only big boy that was after him.

You realize you guys are debating the difference in one star? There really isnt much difference between the number 3 and the number 4. Now if it was 2 and 5 it would be a different story.

I think you'd find a large difference in SEC Championships when comparing SEC schools with a roster predominantly of 3 star players (Kentucky, Vandy, South Carolina, etc.), compared to a roster with a much more significant amount of 4-star players (Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia).

If it's as little a difference as you think then teams with consistent Top 5-10 recruiting classes wouldn't be the ones winning all the SEC championships.

June for a first year coach after two more just went through the door. Why are even debating now? Ridiculous.

I think they like Dooley's straight shooter no bull sh*t attitude. Also he talks about growing them as people and not just as athlete's which is the kinda stuff momma likes to hear.

Also I think he just probably is a smooth talker and can relate to people really well and comes of really genuine.

Then combine that with assistants with great knowledge of the game, and experience getting players to the NFL or training them while in the NFL, and that is a quality recruiting system!

This.

I think it's a little unreasonable to think that this years list and last years list would have the same caliber talent. Monte was a known commodity, easy to sell. Couple that with early playing time, that's a pretty easy sale on the defensive side. Compare that to this year. The DC is unknown, and while I think CCS will be fantastic, the story has to be told. There is really no comparison.

On offense, we'll take a QB, maybe another RB, maybe a couple of WR's....the rest will be OL, TE's...not really making for a sexy recruiting class.

Overall we really need the big uglies on both sides of the ball, lots of them so, I'm not real concerned where we rank or how many stars at this year's camp compared to last years.

Mostly, it just seems a convenient excuse by some to have the same old debate. I never liked Kiffin & Co., they were great recruiters. They are gone...what difference does it make to compare the two?

The lists are comparable. Dooley's OL campers were MUCH MUCH stronger than Kiffins. Kiffin's DL campers were MUCH MUCH stronger than Dooleys.

I don't know if you can count Brown as a 4star since the JUCOs weren't rated until the fall. He had NO OTHER offers either. At least Power has some offers.

We also have commits from at least 3 guys who couldn't qualify (Broussard, Harris, Irvin, possibly Williams) and 1 guy who was an obese troublemaker (Jose). Our commit list this year is just as strong.
