I travelled to Canada in 99, when I filled out my expense report, the canadian dollar was worth .67 cents U.S. Less then 10 years ago.

Dadgummit... I must have hit the gold rush too late back in august. My Fidelity Select Gold mutual fund has been pretty stagnant, but the fund is up 32% for the last 52 weeks.

A lot of the rise was due to the large boost to the economy that Alberta has infused through their oil. That accounted for the large rise to the high .80s low .90s; however, the growth past that has been largely just the decline of the dollar.

Biggest problem with the US dollar is the futures forecast. If China wanted to bankrupt us RIGHT now they could easily do it. We just have TOO much debt.

china virtually stopped buying tresuries earlier this year. the market moved on without any problems. and what is china going to do exactly to screw us? sell all their tresuries? that'd be a brilliant move. not only would they take a multiple billion $$$ loss, but potentially ruin by far their most important trading partner.

I can see why it would be in their interest to bankrupt the U.S. They would be the lone super power.

The U.S. will be a third world country when that happens, when the currency devaluation happens. With the Euro replacing the dollar, there's not much to stop it. When the Chinese cash in, which they will at some point, it will be hard times. I think the Argentina problem a few years back with rampant inflation, unemployment, is probably likely.

when the Chineese call in their marker, the Americans will call in their markers for all the "foreign aid" loans that remains unrepaid. It will create a global depression, which means no market for Chineese goods. I do not think they do that.

they wouldn't be a super power anymore without US trade

i think they are more interested in World Domination then being the U.S. leading trading partner. Once the U.S. is weakened economically, they are in position to attack the U.S. militarily. The U.S. doesnt have the manufacturing base, resource base, or population base to engage in a sustained war with China.

I fail to see how any country could ever attack the US militarily with the intent of destroying us. The nuclear arsenal we have puts a lot of "oh sh*ts" in someone's plans.

Militaristic is not the route to take in destroying America. Can't see that ever working out for any enemy.

when the likely outcome is the potential utter destruction of all vital sites in the Motherland, there has to be several better alternatives.

They won't use their nuclear weapons, we won't use are, but that doesn't mean they won't be a conventional war using the air force, army, navy etc.

West Point has played out this scenario numerous times, China always wins because of their larger population.

Just won't happen IMO, not going to take us down via militaristic means. Unless we have people without the balls to use all alternatives running the country.
