Did he forget decades of efforts to communicate with those behind the Iron Curtain via tools like Radio Free Europe and countless other efforts to bring the outside world in?

Did he forget about the arms race that ultimately bankrupted the Soviets?

Did he forget about our efforts to unify countries against communism?

One has to wonder why he would not make any mention of the West's role, let alone our role.

Say what you want and think what you want, but during the Reagan years, the US spent vast amounts of money on defense, and the USSR could not keep up.

Communism vs democracy in a spending war, and communism lost. And when they lost, it was over.

If the Russian people did anything to bring about the end of the cold war, it sounds like instead of standing up, the people of the USSR sat down and refused to work and be productive.

No matter how you look at it, the US brought the end to the cold war. And a peaceful end at that.

I realize that Star Wars was more talk than action, and maybe it was a bluff for the ages.

But the Communist system did not produce wealth like alleged 'free market'. We may not have spent as much as I thought, but the Russians couldn't spend as much because they didn't have it.
