Did he forget the economic triumph of capitalism over communism?
Did he forget decades of efforts to communicate with those behind the Iron Curtain via tools like Radio Free Europe and countless other efforts to bring the outside world in?
Did he forget about the arms race that ultimately bankrupted the Soviets?
Did he forget about NATO?
Did he forget about our efforts to unify countries against communism?
One has to wonder why he would not make any mention of the West's role, let alone our role.
Not at all, it would have been nice he if would have acknowledged the contributoin of the country he is president of.
:hi:
don't you understand, this was all done by whitie. he's not going to give whitie any credit on helping this country defreat communism. part of him thinks communism is a good idea. everyone is equal, except the ones in power of course.
Look at who he is speaking to!!! Of course he is going to extend some warm and fuzzies towards them on this issue. Any president would have done the same thing. This is truly weak.
I thank you for your candor.
No, but he could have Ronald Reagan the credit he deserves for ending the Cold War.
Euro B schools, like LSE, are bastions of foolish Euro-econ trash. Their economies just so happen to reflect it too.Wow.
I also find it incredibly ironic that he was addressing graduates (ala commencement speech style) at an Economics school. It's like Ozzy Osborne giving the commencement speech at an etiquette school...
We didn't spend near what the Soviets spent. We didn't have to.Say what you want and think what you want, but during the Reagan years, the US spent vast amounts of money on defense, and the USSR could not keep up.
Communism vs democracy in a spending war, and communism lost. And when they lost, it was over.
If the Russian people did anything to bring about the end of the cold war, it sounds like instead of standing up, the people of the USSR sat down and refused to work and be productive.
No matter how you look at it, the US brought the end to the cold war. And a peaceful end at that.
We didn't spend near what the Soviets spent. We didn't have to.
Reagan bankrupted the Soviets with Star Wars. A complete bluff. It never even existed. Quite possibly the greatest bluff in history.
Obama couldn't carry Reagan's jockstrap.
This country needs another Reagan NOW.
