What a lousy break for the kid, I wonder how old he was when he started throwing breaking balls?

Once the shoulder stiffened up, I knew it was a matter of time. Guys start doing subtle changes to baby the shoulder and the elbow/forearm area always is the first to suffer.
Also, I'd love to see what kind of throwing routine the Nationals had him on.

He was about 19 years old when he gained all his velocity. A late growth spurt, followed by exerting that amount of force on his shoulder and elbow, could possibly be the culprit.

They will.
My thing is how did the farm system handle it. I'm a faithful believer in throwing everyday while controlling effort.

I can guarantee you that the farm team's coaches didn't control his pitching regiment. That came straight from the top in D.C.

Yet another example that There's No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect. Most of the great ones never turn out to be as good as they're supposed to be, and of the ones who are, probably half of them get hurt pretty quickly, and of those, probably half of them are never close to as good again. Even a prospect as great as Strasburg is just a lottery ticket.
Best of luck to him. Sucks for the Natinals.
