The Chosen One

Or Chris Carpenter. Or Francisco Liriano.

There are plenty of stories on the redemption and never the same again side, so I'm interested to see.

And Heebs, clearly he already threw 110. His changeup, that is.

It sure hasn't hurt Tim Hudson.

Hudson's a 10-year veteran who's learned a few things about getting major league hitters out. You have to think that it's going to be a steeper hill for a rookie who's used to just standing out there blowing people away.

I don't know if Vegas does odds on this, but you'd have to figure that the odds on "Strasburg will win a Cy Young award" just went from something like 3-1 to something like 12-1.

I agree. I mean, the scary thing is, he could come back worse than he was and never be the same and still be a front of the rotation starter. His eventual return will be about as hyped up as his debut was haha.

I was talking to some Yankees fan in a bar a couple of months ago when Strasburg first came up and Heyward's thumb was bothering him, and he was all DOOD I BET YOU WISH YOU HAD STRASBURG INSTEAD OF HEYWARD HAHAHAHA and I said something like, "You don't get it -- there isn't a pitcher alive I would trade Heyward for. Not Strasburg, not Halladay, not Lincecum, not anybody. Pitchers get hurt. Pitchers are inconsistent. The "who's the best pitcher in baseball?" conversation has different names on it every three years. But great hitters are great hitters forever."

He thought I was an idiot. If I could dial up anybody to sit next to at the bar next time I go, it might be him. (Assuming Scarlett Johansson is busy, of course.)

You're right, he's an idiot.

If a player can put up good numbers in the same league without significant injury for 3-4 consecutive seasons, then he should be taken seriously.

Why would a Yankees fan give the first damn about Strasburg or Heyward?

Even if he recovers fully I'll always wonder "what could have been". He may comeback and have a great career, but this will always limit even more of his potential.

Haven't you noticed that Yankees fans hate everything that isn't a Yankee? You either play on The Team, are good enough and close enough to free agency that maybe one day The Team will decide to reach down and annex you, or you're a loser. That's pretty much the full range of possibilities.

No need to hate on us Yankees fans just because we consider the rest of the league as our farm system.

J/K guys. I know how most other fans perceive us.

Not all of us are THAT bad.
