For those of you who have to interact with the pustular Alabama nation, may I offer this suggestion: call it the Colt McCoy game. Call it the McCoy Championship. When they reference it ten years down the road, say, "Oh, you mean the McCoy game, right?" Refer to it always in those terms. Because they will hate it, and really, if any of us can do any small thing to add to a Bammer's unhappiness, aren't we all honor bound to do so? Mention Colt McCoy every single time, and they will grind their teeth, and they will be annoyed. Forever.

You can start out by arguing that the MVP trophy should have gone to McCoy. His injury was the play of the game in any meaningful sense, after all.

You and I don't always see eye to eye but I like the way you think.

I started calling their jerseys maroon a few years ago and it drives them absolutely nuts.

The Colt McCoy game....I love it.

Believe it or not, not all Alabama fans are scum. Some deserve to enjoy this moment

When UT beat Florida State for the National Championship, who was the Seminoles' quarterback? Just askin'.

You mean the one who played a couple of games and got to prepare with the first team?

I think it was Outhouse or some such name.

Bama got a break from McCoy not playing last night just like Tennessee got a break from Weinke not playing in the Fiesta Bowl 11 years ago.

as much as i'd like to denegrade any sec title, i bet that bama doesn't sit on that lead in the second quarter with mccoy at qb. no lock texas wins if mccoy plays IMO>

Don't disagree completely, but sitting on a lead needs to be defined. Not like McElroy did much of anything, so handing the ball to Richardson and Ingram was their offense.

Take McCoy's injury out of the picture.

Texas has an illegal formation penalty wipe out a td, have to settle for 3. A receiver has his hands on the ball in the endzone on what looked like a fairly easy catch. And, the absolute worst playcall ever with the shovel pass.

That's 17 points.

I think Alabama was the best team in the country. I've said it since early in the season. This game could have played out much differently, though

who got the bigger break in 98?

UT, because winkie was on the bench?

FSU, because jamal lewis was on the bench?

hint: which player made a bigger splash in the NFL?

Seeing as how UT won, I'd say they did.

RBs are easier to replace than your starting QB.

Put Chris Weinke's immobile arse on the field that night in Tempe and he might have literally gotten killed. Outzen's legs are the only thing that saved him from a savage beating. FSU's front didn't come close to blocking UT's defensive line.

I don't know what would have happened if Weinke played, but to think you would have beaten FSU worse than you did with him playing is laughable. That game was sloppily played on both sides, thanks largely in part to two very good defenses.

I guess it's a stretch to get a Vol fan to admit they got a break going up against Outzen instead of Weinke. It doesn't change the name on the trophy and it doesn't mean UT didn't deserve to win, but there's no denying Weinke not playing helped.

FSU got killed by NC State with Weinke playing that year. They beat Florida with Outzen. Weinke not playing didn't make one bit of difference. How many points did Weinke put up against the OU defense in the BCS title game? He was a fossil in the pocket. Just because he drilled Florida twice doesn't make him good.

You can't be serious.

I'll admit it was a break. No complaints either.

Big words, though, from the one that had to have someone lose in all 3 titles

If you're suggesting that Tennessee must have gotten the bigger break because they won, that's pretty sketchy logic...

I'm suggesting that FSU losing Weinke was a bigger blow than UT not having Jamal Lewis.

I'm also suggesting that UT should make no apologies whatsoever for facing FSU without Weinke.
