"The Colt McCoy Championship"

I'm suggesting that FSU losing Weinke was a bigger blow than UT not having Jamal Lewis.

I'm also suggesting that UT should make no apologies whatsoever for facing FSU without Weinke.

Well, I semi-retract my statement. I don't think Florida should apologize for losing and still winning

Kinda hard to compare FSUs and Texas QB situation in their championship games.

That kid last night was put in about as bad of a situation he could be put in.

Neither team was at full strength, but I get the points about preparation and timing of the respective injuries.

Texas played 3 quarters without a QB basically, until he settled down. His 4th quarter was ok, but they were behind the 8 ball by then.

Brown didn't help, giving them that TD before the half. That, along with McCoy going down, was the plays of the game.

@ OP:

Good plan. I will always and forever refer to the '09-'10 national title game as the "Colt McCoy game"

Colt McCoy. Isn't he the QB that lead Texas to a 16-13 rout of Oklahoma after Sam Bradford was knocked out of the game in the early going? Should that be called the Sam Bradford game? Isn't he the same QB that lead Texas to a 13-12 rout of the Nebraska team whose offense is lame at best? Isn't it true that against the good defenses he faced this season, Colt McCoy was rather ineffective and turnover prone? Didn't he ring up some impressive stats by playing extensively against some pathetic defenses, though? Maybe instead of doing that trying to get Colt a Hypesman trophy, Texas should have gotten Gilbert some more reps?

When UT beat Florida State for the National Championship, who was the Seminoles' quarterback? Just askin'.

That comparsion is not even close to the McCoy situation. Guy had played several games. In this case you had a guy for Texas that was playing in high school last year. No playing time to speak of....and thrown into the National championship just 2 series into the game. Totally different case. I like the idea of "Colt McCoy Game"

Of all the emotions have felt for Bama over the past 50+ years, jealousy has never been one.

Your delusions are still alive and well.

I don't know what would have happened if Weinke played, but to think you would have beaten FSU worse than you did with him playing is laughable. That game was sloppily played on both sides, thanks largely in part to two very good defenses.

I guess it's a stretch to get a Vol fan to admit they got a break going up against Outzen instead of Weinke. It doesn't change the name on the trophy and it doesn't mean UT didn't deserve to win, but there's no denying Weinke not playing helped.

All I heard for a month before that game from FSU fans was that, if anything, they were better with Outzen because of his mobility. But the second the game was over that became their excuse.

Even if Weinke being out helped, it was an order of magnitude less than McCoy's injury helped Alabama. We beat a backup who was good enough to beat Florida, and who'd had a month and a half of practice with the first team. They beat a guy who didn't practice at all with the ones and who'd never taken a meaningful snap before.

Did you guys ever figure out that the Wal-Mart display thing was going to be true no matter who won the title?

Yeah, we heard all of that crap. We just choose to ignore it because it's fun to make WalMart patrons and Bammer nation synonymous.

So, you've never shopped at WalMart?
I've only been in one twice ever, and I've never purchased anything from one.

Makes it easy when half the cities in the Portland area run them out of town before they can even try and set up shop.
