I know this movie is old, but I'm a yungun and I saw it for the first time recently. It's definitely one of my favorite older movies. The scene where DeNiro and Walken break out of the prison was awesome. Walken's brainwashed Russian roulette scene at the end was also very dramatic. The only thing that irked me was the very end....everyone drinking beer around the breakfast table singing "God Bless America." I couldn't tell if they were being satirical or not.

My whole family is from around the area where this movie was set (PA not Vietnam). The wedding scene was very reminiscent of my cousin's wedding.

Deer Hunter is one of my favorite movies. Interesting trivia:

The Big Lebowski (another fave of mine) makes many references to Deer Hunter.

John Cazale died just after making the movie. He was almost cut out of the project because they knew his end was near, but his GF Meryl Streep refused to do the movie without him.

This being Cazale's final movie, he completed the most flawless acting career of all time. He appeared in 5 feature films. All 5 were nominated for best picture and 3 of them won best picture. Can you name the other 4 movies?

Is that kind of deer in PA they were hunting? What kind of deer was that?

My friend who hunts said they brought in some Asian stag or something that is not indigenous to North America.

Oh ok, I've seen white tail and mule deer but I didn't think those type of deer were in north America

My father-in-law swears that flick is the most accurate account of the Vietnam war and its effects on society. I'll disagree, but he lived it.

I read that the mountain range they were hunting was in the Cascades in Washington, far from Pennsylvania. There were some breathtaking shots in the two hunting scenes.
