I’ll disagree on sending him to the minors. Just last season Olson was sporting a BA in the .220’s in mid-June but still managed to get hot and finish with his highest BA ever, the most HR and RBI in the NL. If you look at his OPS, it is more in line with his numbers from 2 seasons ago. As long as he is performing at that level then you can’t be too upset with him. The BA will probably pick up the second half of the season but last year was an aberration. It is not likely he finishes with a .280+ BA in a season for the rest of his career. His career average is .255 so anything over .260 is great for him. We just need his power hitting. We do have the best team BA in the majors after all so we can afford to have a guy that doesn’t consistently hit the ball as long as he is getting on base and producing in the power department.
If you ask me, I’m more concerned with Acuña. Yeah he is back to hitting .300 again, the OBP is there, and the stolen base numbers are there but the lack of power hitting from him is concerning. 1 HR this far into the season is not normal for him by any means. At least he is still contributing in other ways but we need him to be MVP level. I know he had the injury scare in spring training and maybe that is the reason but the power hitting is the only thing lacking from him this year. That’s usually a sign of apprehension towards full torque in your swing. I know it took him an entire season to get back to his normal self after the ACL injury. Hopefully he isn’t playing mind games with himself and starts letting loose with his swing.
