I've been waiting to see when people figure that out. In the end, it's based on an invitation and what a team's path to a Natty is. I think it temporarily expands the notion that more teams have a chance - much like when the basketball tournament expanded the field.

If the selection criteria/process were logical then it would be easier to crown but the field is going to be diluted with the ACC/Big 12 champs and Boise State. We’re going to have a team(s) ranked in the top 10 of the CFP ranking at season’s end being left out of the playoff. Hope they have fun explaining that one to the fans. Those “experts” wanted to make an all-inclusive tournament whenever football has never been that type of sport.

Bud‘s wife, Virginia, was second or third cousins on my father’s side of the family. They lived on Southgate, across from Sequoyah Elementary. He was a big guy. I remember how gnarled his hands were from playing football.
