I haven't seen this guy's defensive or offensive stats, but I would still be willing to bet he's not as valuable to his team - offensively or defensively - as Cal Ripken.

Not quite: Cal Ripken was a contemporary of Ozzie, and he ranks behind Ozzie. But Omar Vizquel is a SS that played after Ozzie, and he is slightly ahead of Simmons. But Simmons is still playing, so we'll see where he ends up.
