The Endzone Garden Thread

As of today I think 6 will make it like I originally thought, and 5 others have a decent chance.

The best news is I think I'm gonna get 1 of each kind except the Moruga Scorpion which I only planted because I had extra seed. I already have 2 plants from last year so I'm actually happy none of those made it.

I replanted the ones that the squirrel got into. I have no idea what's going to come up. Complicated to explain but I've got 30 of those little starter pots that have up to 3 different types of pepper seeds in them.

Have 6 sprouts this morning. Woot!! Lol.

If you have heat mats, or even something like the top of the fridge with a warm top, use that. (My heat mats raise the temp 10° above whatever the ambient air temp is.) Peppers are even worse than tomatoes for wanting warm soil to germinate. I planted five seeds and after a ridiculously long time, they finally came up.

“Ridiculously long time” = 20 days for the very first ones, another 4-5 days for the rest; on heat 24 hours/ nearly every day. The heat seems to be an even bigger deal than light.

I thinned my tomato seedlings down to one plant per cup this weekend. It was really weird though. I hav one, Costoluto Genovese, that I thought I only did two seeds. But, each seed came up as "twin but separte" stalks. I mean like they were fused. But they weren't. and both were exactly the same. Everything I seeded has come up and doing well. But, I tried Heavy Hitter Okra, and have seeded it twice and still nothing. It's hte only thing I didn't breed. Thankfully, I've got 3 other okras sprouted.

I started Costoluto Genovese indoors too!

I started Baby Bubba okra, and it took forever. I was about to write it off, but then they all sprouted. Unfortunately, they’re pretty leggy, but we’ll see once they’re in the pot on the patio. (Dwarf - 3-4’ - plant with full-sized pods)

I have to force myself to thin, and it kills me!

I wait till one is clearly dominating the other. Maybe 3" high. I take out the straggler.
That’s what’s so terrible (to me) - most of them are neck and neck so far!

So for the ones I’m donating, I’m just ever-so-carefully dividing them up.

Of course, now I’m out of pots. 🤪

Everything looks great! I am jealous and can't give y'all enough likes! Learning to live vicariously. We always winter over ferns and such in Mom's garage. She's moved them out to the lanai. Still won't put out until after Mother's Day. We are superstitious about that, and you never know when it's going to frost. Anyway, I can handle 3 asparagus ferns on my balcony. That's it. I am still jealous of y'all.

Hey, Barney: the dude that installed it called it a "lanai" and he was as redneck as they come. I call it the patio. Just wanted to spruce up my verbiage to impress y'all, haha.
