The Endzone Garden Thread

So, for the pot farmers here (@Orangeslice13 @tnuhcvols) -

What are you planning to do with the soil in the pots at the end of the season? I’d like to be able to dump the soil onto established flowerbeds etc so that I can stack up the pots and put them away, but that’s gonna be a pretty hefty price tag for new Fancy Dirt each spring.

We make compost, but we don’t make THAT much compost.

Will dump it all in a bin beside the compost bins. Mix in new compost and refill adding specific nutrients depending on what I’m growing in it next.
Basically recycle and reuse

I may use mine to fill all the mole runs in my yard. It did take a lot more dirt than I expected

I use the heavy contractor bags from Sam's....don't load em down too much....ensure they can be tied and moved...sunny days in winter or early spring pull them out onto concrete/asphalt and let the bags absorb heat, which kills a lot of the fungus and insect larvae in the soil

Yeah, I’d like to do that. I’ll have to find a location for it though.

Are you talking about a literal bin, like a dumpster, or what?

Are these like that heavy-duty contractor-type paper, that you cut into with a knife? Or heavy-duty plastic?

I took the blocks that were the raised beds and made compost bins back behind the shop. 4 feet by 4 feet, 3 feet tall. There are two for compost rotation and one that doesn’t have a front for remixing dirt.

yes, I’m a redneck.

I’ve started mixing in a little grass clippings with the food we compost we will see what that does View attachment 554210
That’s quite a slug of nitrogen. Do you have any “browns” to balance it out? We once buried a pile of grass clippings under kitchen scraps, and it turned into a nasty slime blob of anaerobic sludge. Phew

Looks great
I'm a little behind but got some seeds out today
I will get some pics posted up soon, I hope
I got a couple of red geraniums and started the cuttings today (I get the big plants and will not buy unless I can get 3-4 cuttings off it when I buy it and more later haha)
Same with the white lantanas and the cuttings (the only color of that flower I like)
I started some portulaca from cuttings last year (in pots), and they ended up reseeded in several small containers that I did not empty. Imma leave em be and see what happens.
I also started some coleus from cuttings today in water. I've never done that before.
Lowe's had a 2/$10 sale on some perennials, ended yesterday, and I picked up a couple of fire witch dianthus, a couple of gallardilla (spelling?), and a couple of other heat tolerant perennials on Monday.
I put on my heavy sleeves (blood thinner thing) yesterday and cut a damn holly bush to the ground (can't pull it out with a truck like the others because the roots of it have grown into the propane line uggh)....noticed exactly how many Tennessee orange lilies I have out there (pretty close to blooming)....gonna move them maybe tomorrow and hope they and the white lantanas put on an orange and white color show for a while hahahaha

don't remember if I said anything about this before, but last spring my daughter decided to "help" me with weeding a little bit
she did it while I was at school
so she pulled up all the bee balm we had, which I absolutely love: the red ones
my wife won't admit she told her to do it, but I'm hearing a lot about hey you should put some glads there where that awful bee balm was hahahaha
