The Eternal Question…

Not in the slightest. I guess It makes us “look better” if our conference opponents are good too but I don’t care. All I care about is UT. I wanna win and I want all of our SEC opponents to lose.

I think it helps all the SEC teams when top talent wants to come play in our conference vs others like the ACC that have dominated for so long. It gets sick seeing Duke/North Carolina in the finals every year. I enjoyed watching Vandy beat Michigan in the NIT days ago.

Candice Parker, Jay Wright and others discussed this yesterday. Many fans root for the conference but the SEC is different. Not saying it’s rt or wrong, but the game is more important to fans of SEC teams. The SEC is more competitive and the rivalries are second to none. It means more in the SEC.

With that said, I only care about TN and couldn’t care less about the rest of SEC.
I lived in Madison, WI for 20 years and folks up there were very devoted Big 10 for every team except OSU. Everyone hates OSU expect Ohioans.
They were truly confused why I hated just about every SEC team ( I like LSU for some reason). They just don’t get it.

From a basketball perspective, I think I am more anti- blueblood than anything.. the Kentucky, Dukes, whoever are the most irritating because they just think that they should win just because they are them (if that makes sense) 😂, but I’m really not paying that much attention to what the other SEC teams are doing, but this year and around this time last year were the most Basketvols I’ve watched since Grant and Admiral.. and Kentucky being out now is very enjoyable

LSU fans know how to tailgate and be decent. Georgia Bulldog fans are the scum of the Earth.

All of the teams in the SEC that beat us down the stretch have been eliminated this weekend. Missouri, Auburn, Kentucky (how sweet it is) to see them go down. With a solid week's rest and scouting of tonight's game, should give Tennessee a advantage. If we take care of business like we did in the Duke game, no reason we shouldn't make final 4.

Do you feel conference pride in a general way? Tourney time seems like the right time to raise the question. To clarify, I don’t mean those times you root for a conference foe because their winning would benefit the Vols in some way. I mean, do you feel a pride about all SEC teams because we share the conference and usually root for them to win in the Dance? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.
No I want Bama out this week and I want us to be the only SEC team in the final four. Go Vols and efff the rest.

Good question. Been around the SEC since 1964. First, I absolutely no way consider Missouri and Texas A&M as SEC. I never will. Yes I know they are in the conference but it’s kinda like China and Taiwan. I don’t recognize their existence. So I totally ignore what they do. I’m OK with Arkansas and South Carolina but that took a while. And I have no interest in Texas and Oklahoma. Hope their trains derail on the way over here. For the rest of the original 10 of the 60s-80s, I root for them to lose every game they play. Can’t explain why, just do.

Only time I root for another SEC team is if it makes Tennessee look better or benefits them somehow…and then I always root for the SEC team playing Alabama in football and now basketball, Kentucky in basketball, and Vandy in everything. Vandy could lose a chess match to Texas A&M and I would celebrate.

Does North Carolina pull for Duke? Does tOSU pull for Michigan? Does Texas pull for Oklahoma? Does UCLA pull for USC? Does the Barn pull for Bama?

Hell, No!

The majority of Barn fans are pulling for Bama. Scroll through comments on FB after the Bama game. I never would, I’m all about UT and that’s it.

Mid major and smaller conferences I get conference pride more because most are usually 1 bid leagues and they need all the help they can get, plus that really is a collective "David vs. Goliath" situation. But the SEC....yeah no.

I thought the eternal question for UT was "why not us"?

I cheer for SEC schools but mostly because I get more engaged watching them because they are the product that I know. I just have less interest when non-SEC teams play (exception maybe mid-majors).

So I am not sure if it is a conference pride thing, but rather just something that makes the tournament more enjoyable.

Don't FB. But question whether it was the majority. It's like here on VN, some Vol fans will cheer for the any and all SEC teams. Doesn't bother me but no one will catch me doing it without there being some benefit to the Vols.

Nate Oats addresses potential of Auburn fans cheering against Alabama during game vs. Maryland (saturdaydownsouth.com)

With the Tigers getting the early game, Oats knows some Auburn fans are likely to hang around for Alabama’s matchup. Oats made it clear he would like it “if… we could get all the SEC fans to cheer for the SEC team in our game.”

At the end of the day, Oats knows some Auburn fans will stay in the arena to pull against the Tide because “they can’t help themselves.” Nevertheless, Oats says he’s “pulling for the SEC. I want the SEC teams to do well (in March Madness.”

To his credit, Maryland head coach Kevin Willard has urged Auburn fans to “stick around” for the nightcap against the Tide. He’s clearly hoping to use some of those rivalry feelings from the Tiger faithful to his advantage in Birmingham.

Kelvin Sampson thinks he’ll be able to count on Alabama fans cheering for his Houston team as the Cougars take on Auburn on Saturday.

“From what I know about Auburn-Alabama, I don’t think I have to,” said Sampson in regard to pitching Tide fans to pull for Houston on Saturday. “We’re playing Auburn, 6:10 (local time), let’s go. We need some help, Roll Tide! Is that good enough?”

Kelvin Sampson delivers simple pitch to Alabama fans to pull for Houston in Saturday's matchup vs. Auburn (saturdaydownsouth.com)

Remember Minnesota playing "Rocky Top" after beating Bama in the Music City Bowl? I can only hope San Diego State's prep band knows how to play RockyTop.

It's Vols only, I could care less about anybody else in the SEC, and it doesn't matter what sport. Vols all the way

I'll root for the Missouris and the Mississippi States or whatever. Never for Kentucky, for instance

I can kind of get behind this but then again I don't because if it's a team that hasn't enjoyed success I still don't want them to get it before us. Like even though our basketball success overall is better, I still hate that South Carolina got to a Final Four before we did no matter how flukey it kind of was. Same with Auburn. Same with Miss. St.

In the NCAA tourney I prefer SEC teams to win their first round game. After that, they can lose them all. That keeps the conference perception up and usually will not affect the Vols in any other way.

Definitely. Being part of the SEC is a point of pride. The SEC is the dominant conference in pretty much all sports. we are big fish in a big pond. Other conferences have dominant teams in some sports but the rest are meh. The SEC is highly represented in every sport I can think of outside of hockey. Loot at any top 25 and there are multiple SEC not only in there but near the top.

2 things can be true at one guy. I can hate my opponent and respect him at the same time. I don't anyone beating my rival except for me. Who wants a weak rival..that just makes you a bully.
