The Final Four Thread

To be fair though, winning your conference doesn't really mean diddly in this system (of basketball) other than a banner and maybe some bragging rights for your fans if you don't have a good tourney run, does it?

The SEC was really week and they had more talent than any SEC team.

i have to say i want to thank uconn in this respect.

i can sleep better knowing a team florida lost to twice is the national champion and not the team florida beat three times.

i would have been sick about that.

all in all, they had a good year, probably a great year.

i have a raised eyebrow about kentucky's recruiting methods as well.

however, you have to give calipari credit. it's hard to take groups of players that young who will only be in school for a year to buy in and play for each other the way he consistently has his teams do.
. One and done rule is bad for basketball. I want a three year rule. Then there wouldn't be any kentuckys

Heh. I just realized this:

In its first season, the American Athletic Conference won both the Fiesta Bowl AND the NCAA Men's Tournament.

Go AAC go.

They lost the SEC championship game by 1 point to the #1 team in the country and they made the NCAA tourney championship game and were in it until the last minute or so and you are suggesting they underachieved?

kentucky just takes advantage of it more than any other school.

personnally, if i were a coach, i could not operate that way.

it would drive me nuts

No. I'm just stating that there was a lot of high expectations for this team like going 40-0 and winning an NCAA Championship. Clearly, they didn't meet those expectations like some UK fans said they would.

It's not Cal's fault that Kentucky shot 13-24 from the free throw line including a miss on the front end of a one and one in the 2nd half but their strategy with regard to fouling in the last minute is hard to understand. They didn't manage the clock well by fouling intentionally with just under a minute left when UConn wasn't in the bonus but then not fouling and letting UConn milk the clock in a 2 possession game at 58-54. That game was reminiscent of how he mismanaged the end of regulation in the '08 Championship game for Memphis.

Agree - though I would say free throws are his responsibility; they clearly aren't a priority in practice.

Terrible clock management at the end

And some of our fans had us winning 10 games (football) last year...:)

absolutely gut wrenching game to watch at times. Missed a lot of good shots (they did too). Congrats to them. We were on a magical run and it the luck ran out. Onto the next one.

If Cal leaves, Kentucky could be pretty bad next year.

Apparently all of their freshmen, plus WCS are gone.

Rough way to finish the season, but gotta be happy to make it this far. They were a lot of fun to watch the past few weeks :hi:

I think the regular season is fun and all and it's not that I think conference championships are worthless, put they don't compare to a good tournament.

obviously, a national title trumps all.

but, i don't think dayton had a better year than kansas because dayton got to the elite 8 and kansas was sent home in the round of 32.

is kentucky's season better than florida's because kentucky advanced one extra round?

i try to use the tedy bruschi rationale....t-shirt and hat games.

you get a t-shirt and hat for winning the conference, winning the conference tournament, winning a regional (advancing to the final four) and winning the national title.

if you get to the elite 8 and did not win the conference or conference tournament, then you really won nothing.

99, I do think this Kentucky team will be remembered much more than this year's Florida team. Jmo
