The Gardening Thread

Yes. Gwinnutia.

Will be passing thru the gauntlet at some point next week, likely coming back north from Hartwell. Supposed to head aout Friday morning south to Valdosta/Lakeland to spend a few days with the grand kids, then round it back up to Covington for a day, then Hartwell, then back to TN. WE have no outlet south thru Friday morning roads that does not involve a mountain or two.

Flowers won’t; foliage probably won’t; bulbs should make it, especially if they’ve been in the ground for several years. Some mulch (leaves, etc.) might help
Yes, the bulbs will survive, but they’re having a glorious December for blossoms, and the frigid temperatures will end these. Alas…

Yeah, back when I did a lot more ornamental gardening (as opposed to veg), I used to go outside in winter and yell at plants a lot.

I have sold or given away hundreds of Iris and daffodil bulbs, yet I still have a hundred or more irises, hundreds of paper whites, and likely a thousand daffodils. The daffies survived the latest cold snap and are blooming gloriously, now.

Ok, we’re gonna need pics for all that!

Yeah, I got daffodils everywhere. They're in my yard just in the open, the flower beds. Between the big roots of the beech trees, even in the woods. I'll have white ones come into bloom about half way thru yellow season. After they allfade out, they are followed by a solid carpet of tiny white/blue wild flower that blankets the edge of my wooded areas all the way around and going back maybe 20 feet in some places.

I inherited the daffodils when I bought the property ~13 years ago. I’ve excavated and transplanted hundreds and hundreds of them.

That's an impressive stand, and the only color this time of year. I love seeing mine come out.

Have nicked and am soaking moonflower seeds overnight. They’ll go in the ground tomorrow. Churned and amended the soil in the pot on my front porch and planted seeds of the cypress vine. I’ve set aside a few in case this batch doesn’t germinate.
