Good analysis. CJH ran a great up tempo offense a couple of years ago but I don't think we're going to be able to repeat that with our current roster.

Also couldn’t use our TE as much, which takes away a good option. Remember how they were productive early on. I think they had to stay in and block because of our depleted OL

Our player evaluation and development is the biggest problem.

I wonder if we'll take a new approach to NIL... Instead of a splash guy with huge NIL each recruiting class, we reallocate that money for more solid players? Less Nicos, Davis Sanders, and Faizons; dozens of more high 4 star caliber talents.Then we can build some stronger lines and develop inside out.

Well, that's what needs to be done. I honestly don't mind the big money on the OL and DL, that's where it's all starts but, player evaluation and development is key.

1. We got beaten (yes, soundly) by a very good team with one of the top 3-4 rosters in college football in their backyard on Dec 21 no less, the sky is not falling, we met or exceeded expectations this year; yes, we'd have liked to have won, but it was always going to be an uphill battle;

2. Alot of people on this board, and especially in the RF, kid themselves about how well we recruit, we recruited better this year than we have in quite some time and we finished No. 10 on the composite, that's a good class, but Georgia, Ohio State and Bama are in the Top 3-4 every year, and while we've beat Bama twice in close games in Neyland, generally, when we play those teams, the talent disparity shows, and it did again last night. If we want to be truly elite, we need to recruit better;

3. That said, not long ago, we were 0-8 in conference play, we've come a long way in a short time. Heupel is the best coach we've had in a long time. We didn't become what we became in the 90's overnight, there were alot of years of 8-3, 9-2-1, etc. before we went 45-5 in 4 years from 1995 to 1998, we need to keep building. The future is still bright. GBO.

Will Howard didn’t really blossom until this year, his 5th year. Nico’s stats are much better at this stage than Will’s were at the same time frame.
We probably would have run him out of town if he had been playing here.

We could have taken OSU’s roster, doubled it to play themselves and in the end OSU staff coached circles around ours! Talent difference isn’t as great as that final score was last night. Have to get better coaching or in the end the Jimmy and joes don’t matter because we keep getting outcoached.

He was dropping dimes to two of the best receivers in the country also. The guys got separation, run good routes, and don't make mistakes.

Howard threw the passes that were there and open, for sure, and didn't make it hard for them but they didn't make it hard for him either.

If we can't outspend them we may need the moneyball approach. First and foremost I would throw the biggest $ at the o line and hire the best line coach I could find.

Yes he was..... and OSU didn't recruit him. They only want him after he had gone to Kansas State and proved he was much better than recruiting gurus thought. When it became apparent that he was an elite QB they became interested and paid him to leave.

And he's not the only one there that came that way.

Money is now the primary force in determining the composition of a roster.

Chip Kelly vs Tim Banks was the biggest mis-match last night. Banks D saved us this year as the offense was awful in Conference play, but last night showed why Tim Banks leaves a lot to be desired.

If that’s the case it’s still on the coaches. It’s not like we are paying 5 million for our roster! If we are paying 16 million for a roster that OSU is paying 22 million for, that means our player evaluations are **** and our development is also! So if that’s the case do the Coach Prime way and jettison the slaw and pay for a bunch of players with better talent. Maybe our coaching is so bad and we are so inept that we have to pay 40 million for a year or 2 to bring in the talent necessary, but the fact is last night we got outcoached and out talented and in the end that’s still completely on the coaches! First, for Josh allowing Martinez who has always sucked to continue coaching DB’s as he hasn’t recruited anything since he’s been here and also for his best man or whatever coaching OL that we still have to depend on walk ons to even play a game. So in the end, even if they had more talent at every single position on the field, it falls on the coaches for terribly spending 16 million on players that can’t play at that level. Also that Howard at QB was terrible a lot this year and was a 3 star QB coming out of high school. Had 5 games with barely over 200 yards passing(and they weren’t games they rushed for 200 either). He was one of those game manager type QB’s that Saban had early on that was just told to not make mistakes. Last night he had over 300 yards passing. One of 2 games this year he done that and lord knows Oregons defense is absolutely terrible! So maybe we need to back channel some talks with Smith or Ryan Williams that we will pay 3 million or more a year to come to us since it seems tampering isn’t going to be enforced in the Wild West.

Basically let me sum this up we are mediocre and our Coach will not win a Natty until we have the players at every level .
