The Gimmick that is Marcus Jordan costs UCF Adidas deal

Adidas will not renew the contract with UCF because MJjr is wearing Air Jordans in games.
This is the final year of a 5 year contract that will not be renewed.

Not like UCF is a huge market for Adidas. I live here and most folks here at Gator fans anyhow.

It is NO loss for Adidas. UCF will not get near as much gear or cash from any other company.
I hope MJ steps up or it just hurts the school. I used to sit in on a lot of these negotiations and UCF will suffer at the table with the next company as they will be able to say, "what good is signing a contract with you"....."you will not live up to it".

Someone on the UCF coaching staff shouldn't have told Marcus while he was being recruited there would be no problem with him wearing Nikes, because that's what's been reported several times by various sources here in Orlando.

Don't hate on Marcus for promises UCF made before covering their ass with Adidas.

I am quite sure the basketball staff told MJjr what ever he wanted to hear. I do blame MJjr for insisting that he get to wear, and when it became an issue, wearing them anyway. That is not what a TEAM member does.
The basketball program has just cost the entire Athletic Dept.

Take a Sharpie and draw three black stripes on the dang Jordans.
The pro athletes draw logos on their shoes all the time.

I'm a little closer to this issue than most of you.

Let's just say UCF's AD isn't crying any tears over Adidas backing out of their contract.

You might live down there but you do not get it.
Adidas is not "backing out" of squat. They are not negotiating a new contract AFTER this year. According to the report.
The AD might be OK with this, but the impression that the school is making WILL hurt them in future deals.

Not if they ink a deal with Nike...it won't hurt them one bit.

I know it is a multi-million dollar business...but this is oh so stupid.
On the part of adidas. It shows them to be the petty, second rate company they are. When Eddie Sutton took over at Kentucky, the Cats had been wearing Converse for about a thousand years. Sutton was a Nike guy. Roger Harden, whose father was the Converse college basketball rep for the region, was on the team. He wore Converse and Nike didn't complain one bit. That's the difference between an industry giant like Nike and a pissant organization like adidas.

I think it screams Diva on Jordan's part.
Imagine him wanting to wear shoes named after his dad. That probably doesn't have any special meaning to him at all.

I actually think he should have just worn the Adidas, but I can't fault him for wanting to wear the shoes named for his dad.

I'll be sure and pull this gem up when he scores over a thousand career points and makes All C-USA.

Given the events of the evening, I decided to move the timetable up a bit.

Imo Adidas shoes are of much greater quality than that of Nike. I've worn both. Adidas last all season while i've had to buy two pairs of Nike for one season of play. My son has also experienced this poor quality from Nike. However, Nike's marketing team is vastly superior to that of Adidas' team. Under Armour is rising fast, however and will be a seriously rival to Nike for many years. Under Armour is expensive but their shoes and other apparel is of the highest quality. I will continue to support that company. I apologize for getting off topic. If Jordan was told by UCF during recruitment that he could wear his shoe of choice, the kid should be able to do just that.

I wonder if Adidas offered to customize his shoes for his foot the way (I'm sure) Jordan Brand would. Jus sayin. You want the publicity I bring, lemme wear my AJ's.
