Not like UCF is a huge market for Adidas. I live here and most folks here at Gator fans anyhow.
It is NO loss for Adidas. UCF will not get near as much gear or cash from any other company.
I hope MJ steps up or it just hurts the school. I used to sit in on a lot of these negotiations and UCF will suffer at the table with the next company as they will be able to say, "what good is signing a contract with you"....."you will not live up to it".
Someone on the UCF coaching staff shouldn't have told Marcus while he was being recruited there would be no problem with him wearing Nikes, because that's what's been reported several times by various sources here in Orlando.
Don't hate on Marcus for promises UCF made before covering their ass with Adidas.
I am quite sure the basketball staff told MJjr what ever he wanted to hear. I do blame MJjr for insisting that he get to wear, and when it became an issue, wearing them anyway. That is not what a TEAM member does.
The basketball program has just cost the entire Athletic Dept.
I'm a little closer to this issue than most of you.
Let's just say UCF's AD isn't crying any tears over Adidas backing out of their contract.
You might live down there but you do not get it.
Adidas is not "backing out" of squat. They are not negotiating a new contract AFTER this year. According to the report.
The AD might be OK with this, but the impression that the school is making WILL hurt them in future deals.
On the part of adidas. It shows them to be the petty, second rate company they are. When Eddie Sutton took over at Kentucky, the Cats had been wearing Converse for about a thousand years. Sutton was a Nike guy. Roger Harden, whose father was the Converse college basketball rep for the region, was on the team. He wore Converse and Nike didn't complain one bit. That's the difference between an industry giant like Nike and a pissant organization like adidas.I know it is a multi-million dollar business...but this is oh so stupid.
