mizuno mp series will be a bit much VIA... if you find a deal on a mizuno mx series, they will be fabulous irons for you. I would guess the cheapest will be the mx 15 or a set of TZoids should be good for you. However, Mizuno is usually pricey. If you can get TA's that cheap do it.

So, what about TA 845s? I know the 855s are what I would like to have in a perfect world, but if I could get used 845s for $40ish, should I?

Sorry for all these questions, but I haven't used ebay in at least 5 years, and these iron sets deals look amazing.

I shot a respectable 6-over par 78 today. Conditions were just right for scoring today but I simply left myself with putts of way too much length, couldn't get any mid irons close to the pin, never had a birdie putt inside 22 ft. all day long...missed a couple of par putts from about 10 ft. that would have helped the cause.....but hey.. the beer was cold....:good!:

Actually, one last favor:

Could you all just tell me different sets of irons that would be good for a beginner who hasn't broken 90, but plans to this season? My improvement has been good. I'm 6', a little overweight, and strong lower body.

Obviously, from past posts, the TAs are good for me, as are Cobras. Any others to look for that will be good as used clubs?

Zona...... I highly reccomend going to Rock Bottom Golf.com and looking at their selection of Adams irons.....they are great clubs for the high handicapper in both quality and price.

Agggggh I love ebay

New TaylorMade clubs for $0.01

Obviously won't last very long, as it has 2 days left, but I can hope.

Thanks, will do!

Also, I used to work with a Joey in Knoxville who was a huge Vol fan.

You don't happen to own a company, do you?

Zona....don't know what you are wanting to spend, but the Adams Idea A2 irons with the hybrid 3 and 4 irons is a very sound investment...these will improve your game and last you several years or until your are ready to trade.

Generally, you need "Game Improvement" clubs, and every major manufacturer makes a set. "Super Game Improvement" clubs are targeted at those that need help and do not plan on improving their game; "Player's" irons are for those not worried about forgiveness nearly as much as working the ball. Game Improvement means forgiving but still workable to some degree, although there are variations within that range.

If you get a chance, try and to to a golf shop that will let you demo multiple sets--think Golfsmith, Nevada Bobs, etc.--even if you don't plan on buying them there. Pick the set that you like best, then buy it, new or used, wherever you like.

For the record, I play the aforementioned Mizuno MXes. I hit about 10 different models, narrowed it down to those and a set of Calloway's as to the two that fit my game best, and picked the MXes because I liked the look of them better.

$40ish?? I might buy them just so I can throw them in the lake after the round. I don't see how you can really go wrong.

$40 isn't my maximum by any means, but that's where I expect the bidding to go. I assume $40 is cheap cheap cheap for those clubs.

Gotcha. I'm even more noob at golf equipment than I am at golf.

Don't obscess over it too much. All you want to do is find something serviceable that you can use in the short term while you are figuring out some basics. Anything that is cavity backed and looks good to your eye will fill the bill.

Alright, I'm currently the leader with 30 minutes left for a used set of TA 855s Silver Scot irons. $76 right now.

Lex, are the Silver Scot sets the same as what you linked?

you can't go wrong with TA's for $76.00..

Just take a couple of lessons after you get them..

and good luck, the game's addictive, once you get over the struggle of the first few rounds..

I won the TAs for $76. Used in very good condition, should be a good set for me - better than my 3rd generation Dunlops that look 20 years old

What I need is for somebody to recommend a putter. I 3 putted 4 times on Saturday. It was awful. What's even worse is I hit the ball great.
I just got one of the Odyssey (which I would never have considered in the past) putters that I actually like. It's the White Hot XG Marxman Blade. Alignment (my biggest issue) is the best I've seen and my ability to control the speed isn't as hindered as typical. You might give it a look - inspires a lot of confidence if you're like me and don't play enough any more to have the confidence you need to make putts.
