Any one played Woodlake in Tazewell
May take a few days off next month, and stay a few days and golf and fish

It has been a 7-8 years ago. Hilly and a lot of shot making decisions affected by slope, bunkers and moguls . So more of a shot maker's course. Back then it was in great condition. Bent grass greens that putted smooth.

Am I the only guy that is loving seeing guys like Robert Reed and Scott Stallings winning golf tournaments against the elitists?

thanks...I'm gonna check it out next time I'm in East Tennessee

I've played Woodlake in Vass, NC. Does that count?

It used to be one of the best deals in the Southern Pines area, especially for Soldiers. But the owner is going bankrupt and nothing is feeling it more than the course. Sad face.

that's down from 95, so your going in the right direction

On Sunday night I was doing a lot of research on my blocks and realized I have been sliding instead of rotating my hips.

So I broke out the orange whip, did some drills and was curious how it would work.

Yesterday woke up and looked at my calendar and realized my day had no important meetings so I ditched work to play.

Same course as Sunday as I wanted to compare. Called my good buddy who recently quit his job and we played. Hit balls for about 30 mins then went out.

Ended up w a 5 over 77. No doubles and one or two birdies I can't remember now.

Hit the ball really well.

Wondering if any of you have played long leaf in pinehurst? We are heading over for our yearly golf trip in April. We have drove by in for several years but decided this year to try it. Thanks

Awesome
I get caught in that too, swaying, vs rotating, another key for me, is getting my left shoulder under my chin

I'm like you. I've driven by it, but never played it. I really like the whole setup at Pinehurst from the hotel to the village to the golf courses.

Absolutely. Amazing place to go for a trip. I'll let you know how long leaf was when we return.

Last time I was at Pinehurst, the starter told us on the first tee, "The yardages are marked on sprinkler heads to the front, middle and back of the greens. It should only take you a couple of holes to realize that you're playing a Donald Ross design and you're a complete idiot if you play to anything but the middle distance."

That's good stuff! lol. I absolutely still love to play a Donald Ross course. Tough, but very fair. None of the tricked up stuff unless some idiot has come in and modified it in recent years.

I think the fact he tells him to shoot at the middle of greens is saying they are tricked up.

I chalked it up more to him being used to talking to a bunch of hacks that were generally about to get their ass kicked by the course.

That is exactly how I read it, and know they tend to be unless they have undergone a dumb modification.

DR courses can make you feel like a king or a pauper. You have to play smart, you usually can't just wail away at them and expect to score. You might actually have to consider what side of the fairway to hit to, how far to carry your ball on the green to stay under the hole, have a decent sand game, etc. So many golfers today are into over powering a course. They have no go to shots or don't play to specific distances. Will not work well on many DRs that have decent length. Then add in the tiering he used on some greens where 4 putts can happen.

Played pebble brook today in greenbrier. Shot an 83, 4 over on front 8 on the back. Can't ever seem to get two decent 9s together.

Be at the cabin next month for vacation. Always take in a round at Gatlinburg Golf Course. A really fun course, what with now living in coastal GA.

Down this way, there are a number of good courses on St. Simons Island. Jekyll is also neat. And there's a hidden gem at Exit 26, Sanctuary Cove. Couples design...par 71...and greens that make you pay for missing them.

I've played TPC Jax (bucket list), and I'd take Sanctuary over it. It helps that I save about $200 in greens fees...ha.

I have a former co-worker that retired and is moving to her families Jekyll Island Home for retirement

They've been remodeling it for the past 4-6 months

been awhile since I played it, but Hampton Club is one of my favorites.

TPC Sawgrass is fun, but it's just a little too 1980s gimmicky for me.
